Dell Inspiron 1525 battery doesn't work

We've had the Dell Inspiron 1525 for a good couple of years, but now the battery is completely duff; it doesn't charge and doesn't work.
I suppose I could go to Dell and pay them lots for a new batery, but what are the alternatives?
(At the moment we're using the cheapest alternative, which is to use the machine without the battery in!)

Thanks.
Yes, I wonder if they are any good?

Just find a seller with excellent feedback. I have bought a battery from a Chinese seller. It seems fine. 12 cell for £37.0
