Help

Before I post a complete SOA just wondered if anyone knows how to deal with the Halifax (credit card) as I have negotiated payment plans with some creditors but the Halifax aren't playing ball.
They suggested contacting Payplan which I did but they weren't really able to help me at the moment other than a DMP which they suggested creditors may not stop interest and charges given the reduced amounts. As I already have agreements with some I didn't want to jeapordise that and end up worse off including losing my bank account.

Does anyone know if the halifax will deal with the individual or whether any companies will negotiate with individual creditors as opposed to the lot?

Sorry if that didn't make sense.

  • I'm not sure about the Halifax specifically but I've found that dealing with an individual face to face is sometimes more productive than speaking to a faceless call centre. Could you go into your local branch and speak to someone personally? I did this with Lloyds who aren't exactly sweetness and light and they helped me much more that I thought they could or would
  • Thanks I'll try that - I just presumed that they would say that they are just the local branch and not the credit card centre. I don't have an account with the halifax, just a credit card.
  • Are you wanting lower payments on your account, if so then Payplan would help you with this in asking them to freeze interest etc... The lenders arnt in the game of simply stopping interest and freezing charges, just because someone wants to reduce debt.
  • Yes It's a bit complicated but Payplan's proposal basically cuts payments to all creditors and they assumed some would not stop interest and charges give the amounts I can pay. They also said they might put a charge on my property of which I'm joint owner with my wife.
I would potentially be in a much worse position if they start to do this as I am making some headway into the debt.
Also It would mean having a basic bank account which would make life extra difficult as I am self employed and need at least a switch card and cheque book to operate effectively.

Would payplan or cccs be prepared to negotiate with just a one lender?
  • Does anyone have any experiance with the halifax (credit card), they have rejected the offers i have made them but haven't suggested an amount they would accept or offered anyhelp other than giving me the address of Payplan and CCCS
Both of these I have spoken to and without going into a lot of detail, they can't help me at the moment.
