No idea need help

Hi,

I need some advice, my problem may appear small compared to most but i still thought it best to seek advice..

Heres the story:

I have 2 debts on my experian credit report (should be more but theres only 2?!).. anyway..

1 is for a credit card - £380
1 is for a student bank account that went overdrawn, £2200

These have been on my record for a few years now..

I want to pay them off and get a clean record - whats the best way to do this?

should i be asking them for proof of the debt first?
should i make them an offer?

only the credit card debt is activly chased - that i know of - that is, they send letters to my place of residence..

Any advice greatly appreciated..!

    Hi

    Starting points.

There are three credit agencies, so other debts may be listed on them.

More likely however is that your debts are more than 6 years old and are now statute barred, unless the creditor already has a CCJ. When did you defualt on these debts?
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing
  • Hi thanks for the quick response! here is the details direct from my report.. ironcally my 'score' is 821 which appears to be fair..although i always get turned down for credit.. :( (which is why ive decided enough is enough and i NEED to clear these blemishes!)

Account type: Credit card / Store card Default Balance: £372 Current Balance: £372

    Defaulted On: 23/05/2006
    ---

Account type: Current Account Special Instruction Indicator: Arrangement Special Instruction Start Date: 01/09/2007 Special Instruction End Date: 01/10/2007 Started: 12/09/2002 Default Balance: £2,204 Current Balance: £2,188

    Defaulted On: 31/10/2007

dont know why the current balance is less than the default balance - i never paid anything - the account was a student account with OD of 1800 - once i went over that amount the charges came and added another 400 - which i disputed but it fell on deaf ears and was sent to recovery..

Have you looked at your report with Equifax and Call Credit?
I refuse to be afraid of the big bad wolf, spiders, or debt collection agencies; one of them's not real and the other two are powerless without my fear.
(Ok, one of them is powerless, spiders can be nasty.)

As of the last count I have cleared
    [STRIKE]23.16%[/STRIKE] 22.49% of my debt. :(
  • Thanks, i have now!

well, CC doesnt have anything on me.. not even the other debts(!)..

Equifax however has another debt on there! £996 for a credit card :( which defaulted on 07/05/2005..

whats worrying is that this is linked to an address from 8 years ago.. what about the addresses BEFORE then? it never asked me to fill out more than 3 previous addresses...

Also this may sound stupid but another problem is that i have a double barrelled surname - and ever since 2001 ive only used the first part of it - which is whats on my cards and what my employer recognises me as, also its what i use on the electrol register and all the checks and debts listed are related to that part of the surname.

Is it possible if i opened another account with either of these 3 credit check companies using my FULL name the results would be different(!)..

    now i am scared!
  • Please can you give me any further advice? shall i request proof of these debts? can i make an offer to pay? of so how much? please help me..
  • anyone? i dont know what to do!

My name was double barrelled while I was married... I only changed it back officially last year so both double barrelled and maiden (first bit) show on the credit reports. Experian call it an "alias" which sounds so sinister to me!! Equifax just call it "another name by which you have been known"

    Hope this helps.

It might be wise to get reports from the 3 CRAs quoting both names, just to make absolutely sure you're seeing everything that's recorded. If any of the agencies' reports already show that a link is registered between the two names, those reports should be complete.

Alias is not meant to be sinister. It just means another name you use or have used.
