One step forward and two steps back

After posting my SOA on here, I took on board a lot of the advice given. I thought I was finally getting somewhere with our debts then I get a summons from the council re last years bill and now I've got a letter from the Inland revenue saying we've been overpaid by 1738.79 and they want it by the 21/10. They have also stopped paying the ctc. I contacted payplan earlier today and am waiting for someone to get back to me. I also phoned the ctc helpline and they are sending me a dispute form. I got paid on friday and my wages have gone already. I'm paying Nco 75.00pm but can't afford it. Last time I phoned them I was treated apaulingly(sp?) so don't know what I should do.
Any help would be grately appreciated. Also recently applied for M&S card but haven't heard anything yet. It would make things easier and save me alot of money I could throw at it instead of just paying off interest.

i owed taxed credit money and was sent a dispute form which they replied to saying i owed the money and i couldn't fight it basically but they did let me pay £27.20 per month with no interest incurred. the unfortunate thing is they usually want you to have made the whole payment within a year so yours will be much higher. good luck though, official dfw nerd club member no 214

Have they said why you were overpaid? We were allegedly overpaid by around £2,500. We appealed against it - they said we hadn't told them about changes of circumstances when we had. After the appeal they said we didn't owe the money and the debt had been written off. It's worth a go.BCSC # 9 and proud! :beer:0

Hi, just wanted to offer a bit of support, surely the Inland Revenue cannot expect you to find this money, are they saying it's an overpayment of tax credits?
If it is maybe an arrangement can be sought but I would advise appeal, appeal, appeal, stopping your money like that simply isn't on.
You may get some mileage by contacting your local MP and asking them to act on your behalf, they will hold local 'surgeries' so you can go and meet them to discuss your issues.
Also can you ring the council about the summons because if memory serves me correctly does'nt a summons add to your bill? Can you ask if you can chip away at your old bill with some kind of arrangement over time, maybe pay one off and then piggyback the old bill on to that one. Good luck and hugs to you.DFW Nerd 267. this drives me nuts - I had to repay £350 ctc in a lump sum and it totally screwed me up for three or four months. I don't have much experience of the revenue so I don't know how good they are with people who are having difficulty paying - sure someone here will know what to do tho0

Hi Cattie1, That would wok out at about 145pm - they have absolutely no chance of getting that back a month.Keep Calm:cool: Smile

they told me i had no right of appeal as it was from a single claim (i'm am now back with partner) and that i hadn't told them for over 3 months which was complete lies as i'd been into the local inland revenue building to sort it all out months before this, they are barstewards!!!!
if it is a large amount they may give you longer-i'm not sure.official dfw nerd club member no 214

I'm soo fed up. Just when we think we're getting our head above water, we get something like this. It's one step forward and two steps back.
I am really at the end of my tether. Am thinking of selling my car but it's my lifeline. I suffer from depression and it's great to know I've got it. Also I have loads of hospital appointmnts with the kids. One has hearing problems and another is being assessed to see if he has Aspergers(sp?) Plus my Oh says it's not worth anything. Plus am looking at getting a job during the xmas holidays. I did this last year working for M& S in St. Helens. If I sold my car I'd struggle to get anything local.
I'm soo cheesed off.Keep Calm:cool: Smile, Enjoy!

Is this Working or Child Tax Credit or did you have the wrong tax code?
That happened to me several years ago and they said I owed them money. My tax code was wrong and I am not sure how I was meant to know that. However, I went into the tax office in despair and they worked it all out for me. Apparently my pay office at work should have noted the error and in the end I didn't have to pay back the money.
Go into your local tax office, even if it is working or child tax credit as they are sooooooo helpful.

Hi Firefly, It's Child tax credit and I've told them whenever there has been a change in circumstances. It's soo annoying. Are local offices open on a sat as I work mon-fri and can't get time off work.Keep Calm:cool: Smile

I don't think they are open Saturdays but if you phone beforehand someone might be able to see you in the lunch hour. Give em a call and see if they can help. :dance:Do not allow the risk of failure to stop you trying!0
