wonga / the loan centre

Went to watch the football on saturday 12.45 kick off, my mate was on his phone for about an hour filling in a wonga online form for £200. He said he will have to pay them back 250 when he gets paid, fair enough.

He then went to his bank to find that the £200 had been put into his account and straight away £40.50 taken out for a company called "the loan centre".

He was not happy and is going to his bank to try and get this £40.50 back. I told him it was probably an admin fee , does anybody have any idea how wonga work?

And he is also broke all the time so he will more than likley end up spiriling into more and more debt with them.

  • he could of gone through 'the loan company' to get to wonga, in which case, as a broker, they would charge a fee

he hasnt got a leg to stand on if this is the case, he went to a broker and they cgarged him to find a loan
  • i dont think he can get his fee back, they did the job and got him a loan?

The Loan Company are one of those up-front fee-taking brokers that these forums are swamped with people complaining about.

He probably applied with them to find him a loan not realising they'd charge him 50 quid for giving his details to payday loan companies.
  • ah right i get it now. so he didnt go direct to wonga he used the loan centre. wat a *ick lol

  • was just about to search the forums for the loan centre but didnt need to as top one so will add to this

My partner filled in the form for the loan centre, didnt take any money, then had a phone call from someone claiming to be her banks fraud dept, asking for the full card number, she was instantly suspicious and hung up rang her own bank who said it was probably the loan company thinking she had put in a digit wrong and they had tried to take 67.50 from her account but it had declined as nothing there ( hence the reason for the loan ), her own bank then suspended her card and sent her another one, 2 weeks later the charge of 67.50 came out on the card that had been cancelled, she spoke to an advisor who managed to reverse teh payment only to let it go a couple of weeks later again, this was returned again, and payment has gone out a third time bank is now saying that they cant reverse charges and that the loan centre has set up something called a recurring payment so it doesnt matter that the card has been cancelled they can still take payment, they dont use phones, they reply to emails with the same thing regardless of your question or statement, cant see them trading for long as they are blatantly fraudulent, but not sure how to deal this problem at the moment as she is still sat in the red with santander gaining £10 per day intrest on un authorised overdraft

AVOID AT ALL COSTS and im so sorry to hear that someone else has fallen for this scam

if anyone has some advice, im all ears, girlfriend is in a right state

    Cheers

Jamespir googled them and discovered they are a broker.

All hindsight now but a little research before commiting to any contract is always worthwhile.

This fee is a "loan finding fee". They have simply charged you for their service, in return they will forward your GF details onto payday loan companies. Your GF signed up and agreed to this even though she probably doesn't agree.

They can do absolutley nothing more than you can do yourself for free with a quick google.

The only thing you can do is follow the complaints procedure (read their T&C's) and request your money back.
They are entitiled to retain £5 of it.

This is on the proviso that you have not used their service (they did not find a suitable loan for you).

It could take a few Months but essentially, you can recover "almost" all of the money.

..phone the police.the fsa. the consumer protection agency..facebook. twitter and your local newspaper..I am in the process of obtaining a few details and when i do i will post them all over the internet. along with my personal experience with them. which is my legal right. apparently they have updated the fee part of their site but others have proof of their domain as it was and i will settle for nothing less than my day in court.I will let the whole world know how things progress.write to them explaining what happened and ask for your money back, this is the curtious thing to do.and what they say you should do.dont be surprised if it gets you nowhere.as i have said all over the internet. i will make them earn every penny of the money they took from us.the loan-centre. 46 alexandra street southend on sea essex ss1 1bj...good luck..
