  • Does anyone know whether these can be used on ceramic hobs? I'd love to get some Le Creuset some day if not today, but I don't know whether it would work for my cooker.

No offence, but the day i pay £66 for a casserole dish is the day I probably wont need to use moneysavingexpert.com
People have many different uses for MSE and £66 for a £105 casserole dish is still a bargain.

£66 for a casserole dish - will have to grab that one up quick. I bet it is so much better than my £4 of the same size that has lasted me 15 years!!!
I hope you enjoy your new purchase :)

I bought a 5 pan Le Crueset set many, many years ago (over 25 years) complete with wooden stand for approx. £75 (and in a sale) - people thought I was mad then.
They are still going strong and now the pan sets only seem to come in 3's, probably due to the price.
My son has been pestering me for ages now for them and despite offering to buy him new ones he wants my old "retro" ones with the wooden handles.
Sadly, he has won and I've just packed them ready to send - hope he gets 25+ years with them as well.

Oh lucky thing! I wish my Mum had a Le Creuset pan set for me to inherit! We're (very) slowly building a collection of the cast iron casserole dishes and pans - all almond unfortunately - I love them. A really good investment that will hopefully be passed on to my children.

    Thanks OP

  • I have a full set of LC pans and four or five casserole dishes. Yes they are lovely and I use them when i'm entertaining because they look good on the table, however for my every day cooking I use ancient cast iron pans from America. These are unglazed and are just a dream to cook with.

Over the years they have become so non stick that eggs etc simply slide about the pans. Mind you it takes a long time to get this good, they are all between 60 and 80 years old!

I also use some old cast iron pans that I bought for a pound from a commercial kitchen that was closing, again, wonderful to work with and meat browns to perfection.

My point being that LC are good but don't pass by those wonderful old raw cast iron pans that have had years of curing!

The picture shows a white/almond one but the description says its teal, does anyone know the colour of the dish you get, i would love a white/almond one, not so keen on the green/teal. Great post thanks

Picture shows almond but text says teal.
  • song_of_calliope, according to the Le Creuset website their cast iron can all be used on ceramic hobs.

niamhtra66, the photo is wrong for some reason, the text says teal and that's what turned up when I ordered mine.

Aldi were selling them in the matching orange colour - originally £29.99 each, had been reduced to £19.99, and went through the till at £15.99. Got DS 2 - he likes LC, but these will keep him going until he can afford the originals.

Says can be used on Gas, Electric, Induction, Halogen and Ceramic. DG
