best 'ultraportable' laptop..?

Im looking for a long lasting laptop that i can use for my studies that is under the £500 mark.

I recently bought pcpro magazine and two highly recommended models that fit the bill are the Acer Aspires Timeline 3810tz, and the Packard Bell dot u. I'm can't decide which is better?

Both have intel penium, Acer 4gb and Packard 3gb of ram, and are said to be portable.

I will be studying abroad so ideally want a laptop that is reliable, but have heard that Acer is poor as far as manuafacturer reliablilty and support goes...

any help would be greatly appreciated!
