Is microdermabrasion and facial scrub the same thing?

From what I am reading!microdermabrasion is just a facial scrub with finer crystals and a machine to scrub the skin instead of fingers.

I found someone online using baking soda.!

Yes, but because a machine is used for micro it takes off more layers of skin so has to be done by a professional.

The aren't the same: a skin scrub is miler, its designed to help remove dirt and debris fom the skin and can be used often (though maybe not every day for gentle skin) microdermabrasions are normally carried out by skin care professionals who use specialised machines or mixtures or both. Its not only designed to take away the dirt from the face, its also designed to take off some of the skin to even out the tone and texture. It should not be used more then once a week as it can damage skin very quickly if overused.

  • There are different types of microdermabrasion, designed to be more or less assertive, and designed for different skin types. I use a dual paramedical grade microdermabrasion machine. Owing to the vacuum suction on the machine it not only abrades the skin but it also has an instant plumping effect, and has been shown to increase the collagen and elastin production under the dermis.
Assuming the therapist knows what they're doing there is generally less skin cell damage with a microderm than with a facial scrub. It can be a very gentle treatment or it can be quite intensive too, depending upon the machine, the type of microderm (crystal or diamond head), and the setting.
The main difference between a facial scrub and a microderm is control: it's far easier to control the amount of exfoliation with a microderm than with a scrub.
It's extremely easy to overthin the epidermis so really don't have it done more than once a fortnight as that's how long it takes to rebuild the acid mantle on the skin. Be guided by your therapist though; all machines are different.
