Digital Cameras -- hold off!

For those who don't know, Photokina, one of the industries big shows is just about to kick off. There have been some announcements of new products already and more will follow before the end of the month leading to price falls on older equipment.

Already some prices have fallen and more will surely follow so unless you need a new camera this instant, hold off a bit.

Folks buying on ebay should price such a fall into their offer, though they'll surely be outbid anyway by folks offering more than the new price for s/h goods :(

Much more news and speculation at dpreview.com and other similiar sites. A reasonable, though not perfect site for following camera price movements is https://www.camerapricebuster.com

  • Good advice. The new Nikon D80 has just come out and so has the Canon 400D. There is quite a number of new compact cameras coming out right now to. But reductions in compact cameras happen so often that you may not see huge reductions. I would keep a look out as per usual for misprices or very good deals that come along occasionally.
  • What I try to do, with almost any technology product, is to buy behind the leading edge -- the latest stuff is the most expensive, and whilst for sure there will be some improvements, the previous model will still do just as good a job as it did, and can be picked up at a discount, the new models generally being introduced at a lower price point than the models they replace.

For example an entry DSLR such as the Canon 350D -- which is a very reasonable camera -- dropped significantly in price on the introduction of the 400D.

For an even better deal try the Canon outlet store on ebay -- fully guaranteed refurbished products that you can sometimes pick up at a bargain.
