I have loads of old wine glasses that I need to get rid of. No one will want them, they're old and scratched. Can they go in bottle banks or will I need to dispose of them some other way?

I think I'd try Freecycle even if they are scratched. Not sure about the bottle bank although I don't see why not.Household: Laura + William-cat

If they've got lead in them (ie lead crystal glasses), you shouldn't put these in the bottle bank, as the MRF they go to and the subseqent re-processors of the glass cullet won't thank you!
Phone your local council's waste dept or check their website - they will usually tell you to put them in your non-recyclable bin.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
If you are feeling arty, get some glass paint and decorate them, pair them up as xmas pressies0

Give them to a "lower-priced "Charity Shop.
Or if you, or someone you know, do car boot sales, you might get a few pennies.0 -
I had loads of old glasses and planted small plants and cacti in them. I grew them on a bit then sold them at a coffeee morning for charity.0

Hi Frosty
I have moved this to green and ethical to see if you can get some other suggestions over here
Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.
thanks

If you haven't found a home for your glasses yet you should deffinately put them on a free gifting site such as:
Scavenger.org.uk
Frecycle.co.uk
efreeko.co.uk
I'm sure that some would take them rather than forking out for some new ones. :j0 -
