jam labels that'll come off the jars easily?

I'm in the middle of jam and chutney making for the very first time, and need to start putting labels on the jars before I forget what they all are (the "autumn chutney" I made last weekend looks very similar to the green tomato chutney that's on the hob at the mo!)
i'm sure you all know how annoying it is when some jars need real elbow grease and WD40 or white spirit to get all the sticky stuff off. Obviously when I come to make some next time, I don't want to have to spend ages getting my own labels off this year's jars!
I was planning to just use usual printer labels, do these come off the jars easily or am I better off using something else? I do have some spray adhesive which I could use with plain paper squares.
I know I could try it out but some things get so much stickier over time I thought that those of you with more experience might have some tips! Thanks in advance

I use masking tape (always have some about and you can sometimes pick up rolls cheap in pound shops)

that's a good idea! I am hoping to give some as christmas presents (and cheekily asking to have the jars back when they're finished...) so am looking for something a bit more professional looking though. I might well use tape for the ones we use, so at least i have SOME jars with laels that are easy to peel off!0

for the jars you give as pressies - DONT stick labels on! instead tie the brown luggage labels (from stationers) on, around the neck of the jar, with string or raffia. looks great and you wont have the hassle of removing sticky! I like to use the brown parcel paper cut into 4inch circles or squares to put over the lids and then tie them with string or raffia. (I prefer the look of raffia, but string looks good too). Very Rustic!
btw, try mayo rubbed over the sticky bit then rub with your finger, it should come off easily.0 -
What a fantastic idea! I think I'll be giving that a try. THanks!0

Hi Morg
Now you've had some great OS input, I've moved this to the I wanna board, just to see if you get any other useful suggestions
Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email !!!!!!.
thanks
