    Fab ideas here!

This is the first year I feel quite organised as I have been squirrelling away gifts since the sales last year where I picked up a few good things from Boots & other sales. Also just got a couple more as Boots had/have? 3 for 2 on selected children's toys - I had to get my son his b'day present so thought I'd make use of it and buy 2 more. Love a bargain ;)

I already have some good pressies for son (5) Daughter (3) and a few other bits. We'll be telling most people that its just gifts for the children this year as I'll be on maternity leave and can't afford to buy for lots of adults. But will be making up homemade goodies to give as little presents.

    Planning on making:

Chutney (hopefully using up the glut of courgettes!)
    Plum Jam
    Shortbread
    Malteaser rocky road

Also need to find some good diabetic recipes for some family members.

I enjoyed putting together hampers last year, so will see what I can do - think the beginning of my maternity leave (pre baby arrival) will have a couple of Xmas shopping days while I am able to get out ;)

Could you pls post the recipe for the Malteaser Rocky Road - sounds yummy! :)

    Hello
beginning to think about this - going to do cookie in a jar mix for god daughters, but can only find american recipes that you put in a 1 litre jar. I wanted to do 500ml jars (cos got jars already)..... and I want a metric recipe... Please help!!!

    Owl x

Make up the 1 litre.. and share it between the 2 jars.. 500ml is half a litre and you want to make two.. Or if they have to be made up individually.. half the quantities.. piece of cake.. or cookie.. :p

  • bath bombs are easy to make

    Bathbombs
To make 1 batch, size is depicted by mould
    INGREDIENTS
    300g Bicarbonate of Soda
    100g Citric Acid
10ml Fragrance or Essential Oil of choice
    Colour cosmetic liquid colour,

this makes a rustic bath bomb
if you want a very smooth finish

    use 150g bicarb, 50g citric, 25g cornflour
    and oils & colour

dont be tempted to use anything other than cosmetic colours as they can dye skin or the bath

if you want to add lavender buds or petals just add as you mix
  • i have got approx £100 in my penny jar, and i think hampers are a great idea, only thing is , i have kids, age 23, 21, 18 and 17, they always give me a huge list of expensive requests, like ipads, iphones, designer clothes and jewellery, i mean , do they think i'm a millionairess? i always start getting worried near xmas, which is ridiculous what does everyone else do about this? this isnt what christmas is all about surely

They probably haven't even considered that it must be a stretch for you to afford all these things and I'm sure they'd be mortified if they knew. I'm 26 and will usually ask my parents for something around £30, like a pair of trainers or some perfume. Just explain that you aren't made of money and I'm sure they'll understand!

Some fab ideas there! FWIW I think toffees or mints would be more retro than jelly beans :-)

I find the savings card that ASDA do to be most useful & just generally round up my shopping & add the extra on to that eg. if my shopping is £37 round up to £40 & add the £3 to my savings card.

So far we've got £100 :j & for 2 of us that should be plenty for food, goodies & maybe even some booze as a treat! :T
