Does anyone know where i can go on a childcare course that won’t cost too much, and is nothing to do with colleges?

Thanks

    As above.

You won't get funding away from the public sector.
  • i didnt really spend a year in college doing 5days a week having no time for my family, just wanted to do it quicker than a year course

The course is a certain length of time in order to cover the required work! What do you wish to achieve as the end result?
    Gone ... or have I?

Even full time college courses aren't 5 days a week and part time will only be for one day a week or a couple of evenings.

I'm sure you wouldn't want your own children looked after by someone who'd only done a course for a couple of months.

My niece is on her 3rd year at College studying childcare. Right from year 1 you are expected to find a work-placement in the childcare industry. She did 3 days at College + 2 days work placement.

It is also worth noting that the pay differential between a level 1 (1st year) and a level 3 qualified childcare worker is at least £13k p/a in earnings potential.

  • yeah the college is 3 days and placement is 2 days, at the end i want to work with children or go in to care work, i no you will get more money the more qualified you are but i not really bothered about that i just want a level 2, get qualified and get into work as soon as poss

Whatever childcare course you do you will need to do placements. I don't see how you can expect to do a course which is less hours a week than a year long college course, yet get the qualification in less time as well. Childcare is not a theoretical course.

You can search HERE for courses in your area, choosing options about when you want to study, the length of time, and qualification to see if there's anything suitable for you.

It's not just a question of getting a piece of paper but of acquiring the skills you need to work successfully in this area.

I work for a company that offers NVQs and even all the Childcare courses are at least 6 months long, and work based. You have to be assessed at work with children or if your are in the Health Care Sector work, at work with the people you care for.
