Some comps say closing date is xx/xx. Most people interpret that as meaning that it will close at 23:59 on xx/xx but I know some sites actually close it at 00:01 on xx/xx meaning like the above poster said that those that think they have until xx/xx will actually miss the comp. I know beautyandthedirt do this so I always used to post the closing date as being a day earlier.
Would make some sense to put it a day earlier with all comps that end throughout the day I guess but I don't enter by end date so wouldn't make a difference to me. But then again how would it work with comps that are only open for 24 hours and aren;t posted on here immediately?
People are always going to miss some comps and everyone has their own posting and comping style so personally don't think we should enforce any more rules on posting style but if pople want to change then might be a good thing for those who enter by end date2008: £783.12 - 2009: £6,401.15 - 2010: £4,230.61 - 2011: £8720 - 2012: £2,041.89
2013: £134.960 -

ps in case its not clear...just my opinion and my thinking....not saying anyone is wrong, or suggesting anything else like that at all!
A valid point, but it would mean everyone would have to remember to write a day earlier as their closing date, plus that could mean some competitions are moved to game over nearly 48 hours too early e.g finishes at 11.59pm 12/11 actually moved at 00.01 on 11/11!
It doesn't often happen to me, as I usually try to keep up to date using the thread start time, it's just that reeccently I've been adopting a 'belt and braces' approach, as I missed a load over the summer and just checking none slipped through the net!0 -
yeah i dont think there is any perfect solution to it at alll......but its nice to discus these things sometimes
thanks bmn for getting what i was saying and explaining more coherently. i wasnt sugesting enforcing new rules....thats never going to be an option really, was just discussing.0 -
Hi everyone. I said a while ago that I was getting close to 1000 friends on Facebook and when I did get there I'd run a little comp as a kind of celebration/thankyou. Looks likely this weekend, and as the lion's share of that 1000 are MSErs I thought I'd make sure people knew about it.
Nothing huge, just a little art canvas (so ladies and gents could both use it) ...and as the rules here prevent me adding it I thought I'd mention it here for anyone fancying having a go.
I'll start it later tonight, here http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/profile.php?id=1202421871
Details of the prize are there too somewhere...
A simple question, and I think having it last a week to give people the chance to enter would work best?
Nice to to something in return for all the help I've had here over the last year or so. Hope it's OK with everyone.
You don't have to be a friend to post on my wall, so just put MSE on your guess is you like...not doing it to boost friends, just a bit of fun, anyone guessing can win because you'd have to be MSE or a friend to know about it
Have a lucky weekend everyone

I have had an email from besttrainfares.info. The heading of the email was "Competition news: Good news for you..."
On opening the email, they have sent it to loads of people and not used BCC, so I can see loads of other peoples email addresses and they in turn can see mine. I think they should have headed it up "Bad news for you....."
Has anyone else had this email? I'm in two minds whether to reply to them and have a go at them or whether to not bother.0 -
hi everyone
As most of you know, I post the Take a Break & Chat Magazine Puzzle answers on here every week & have been doing so for a long time & would love to continue doing so
The magazines come out on a Thursday but due to work commitments & health reasons I normally get the puzzles all finished by the week-end and post them then. Judging by the reaction from this week the majority of you don't mind waiting for me to post them then :A
So I will continue to post them for us all at the week-ends if that is ok with everyone.
I'd like to thank you all for your support and especially to Glad for her help in dealing with the upset over the last two weeks :A
thank you everyone

Thanks Tttjay.
I'm new to the comping boards and was saddened to see the debacle over the past 2 weeks. On the flip side however, I had not stumbled into the realm of regular comps until then.
So Kudos to you and Korky for the hard work you put in to providing the answers for the rest of us. :T
It seems a really good community here on the Comps board and I hope my zest for comping continues.. not won anything yet but hopefully will soon. At least it gives me something to do as well as looking for a new job!
:rotfl:Thanks to those that post the comps!!

thank you tttjay. I only enter as and when I have time anyway, so it makes no difference to me when you post. I didn't even see the debacle that you mention, so I hope that whatever it was you did not find it upsetting.0

((((((((((((((()))))))))))) ttjay, I am sorry to hear theres been more upset on here. i have been on bedrest and not kept up with comps recently, but I am most def very grateful that you are willing to continue to do these. All the best , xxxxMy light may be on, but that doesn't always mean I am looking at the PC - I am far more likely to be cuddling or feeding Tianna atm, so please don't think I am ignoring you if I don't reply quickly
