Every little helps

I know this probably isn't the right place.
However since people in desperation turn to payday loans and such in emergencies it may help some one. Also I remember a while ago someones card had no money, no access to more and had to feed the family for 5 days till the following tuesday. Not to mention it frees up cash for other uses.

Asda and Tesco have started to trial, tesco in more stores than Asda so far, pre-owned game trade ins. I know it isn't huge but if people are clearing the decks to pay stuff off or need an urgent £10 for food it is good news.

All other game trade places give you less cash or more store credit(vouchers), credit can't be eaten or fill the car with fuel. The cash will be less than supermarket own credit and assuming you would shop there anyway you save the cash to put to debts instead :)

That's interesting and as you said might save someone from the sharks.

Another option for food without cash would be foodbanks. These are small local charitable organisations who give away food parcels to people who need them. My local one does parcels for 3 days at a time and a person can get a voucher for one at the GP, the health visitor, the benefits agency, social services, a participating church, the police station, the CAB or a couple of other places I forget- basically everyone should have access to one or another of these official or semi-official places. You don't have to pay it back, they just give you a box according to the size of your family which is nutritionally ballanced and culturally normal. Our local one gives tinned and dried foods like cornflakes, pasta, sauces, corned beef, beans, custard, tea/coffee/sugar, UHT milk and so on (and also can cater for vegetarians). Their leaflet has a breakdown of reasons why people use them, state benefits got stopped is high, as is lost/stolen wallet and relationship breakdown. There is no limit to the number of times a person can get a voucher for a box if they are still in crisis.

To find out if a foodbank exists in your area make enquiries with the types of organisation listed above.
I refuse to be afraid of the big bad wolf, spiders, or debt collection agencies; one of them's not real and the other two are powerless without my fear.
(Ok, one of them is powerless, spiders can be nasty.)

As of the last count I have cleared
    [STRIKE]23.16%[/STRIKE] 22.49% of my debt. :(

Wow, the info in this thread will be really useful for people, i'm fortunate in that i'm not currently in a situation where i need to use these sort of services, but hopefully it'll help those in need so if things are really tough they can at least get a meal inside of them. When i was a student i can remember doing medical trials at the uni because they paid between £5 and £20 per trail, a really useful way to make some money, for me it was literally so i could buy food to eat that day. Thankfully things a better for me now, but i still remember what it feels like to go to bed hungry. Well done guys for posting that information!!
