Contact lenses - Vision Express or Specsavers?

I'm going to go and get some contacts sorted over the weekend. Where should I go if these two are the only options for me?

Cannot speak for everyone but know of three people who went to Specsavers and got the wrong prescription back. I went to Vision Express and although expensive (it ends up being my Birthday present) I rate their service and have never had what feels like a wrong prescription. I also like the additional info on my eyes: I have a birthmark on my eye (they tested to make sure it was not cancer!), never knew this before- find it interesting to know anyway. They also have frames which I prefer.

personally I'd go with Daysoft contacts a tenner for a months worth of lenses inc delivery and they're the comfiest I've tried :)

I think I will go to daysoft eventually but I need hand holding for the first bit.

Between VE and Specsavers, VE every time, purely for their service (certainly not their prices!).
Get the prescription from VE and then shop around. Just had my eye test at VE but bought my specs from a local optician at the less than the price that VE were charging for the lenses only.

Had a pair of specs from VE, with insurance, a few years back here in Yorkshire and broke them in Hampshire on a journey to a cross channel ferry on first day of holiday. Went into VE at Portsmouth and walked out with a new pair an hour later at no charge - and still time to catch the ferry. Holiday would have been ruined without their help.
  • if you know what you want - why not try out the tesco online service
(sorry new user, can't post lnks) tesco opticians . com
cheap - triple clubcard points - you could even double up your vouchers for them :)

Hi, I wear contacts and have been with Specsavers for about 10 years. I have a very straightforward prescription and have never really had any problems with my lenses but the check ups are very thorough and my optician does seem to know what she is doing. I get my lenses and solutions posted to me at home for £13 a month. I could probably do it cheaper from somewhere like Tesco but I like the idea of having an optician I can go to if necessary. Oh and you get half prices Specs if you are on a Contact lense plan and I think you can have designer frames now too.
  • I went to VE and got my eyes checked out and got my first set of 30 days contacts for £42. Once I have them and the prescription I will look online for some cheaper lenses. Does anyone have any tips for a contact lense newbie?

  • I started off with dailies but they were so thin I kept ripping them so I reluctantly tried out monthlies - much easier to put in and take out as they are not so 'floppy'.

Always make sure you're hands are really clean, anything on your fingers is going in your eyes so if they're not clean you will end up with stinging eyes!

I get my lenses delivered quarterly to my home from Boots, costing me just £5 a month. I buy solution separately as it lasts for ages.

Tips: Avoid sitting in the face of air conditioning, I don't know if you work in an office, but if so this will dry your eyes out.

You might find your eyes feel dry if you go into a daydream like I do!!! lol Just keep blnking until your eyes feel normal again!

And be careful how you run your eyes, one because you can trap dirt in your eyes but also because you could actually pop your lens out and trying to find it and put it back in is not a fun game!!

Hope some of this helps :)
