Comet Finance Changes?

I went in tonight to buy a 13" macbook pro, I need it for work so I had made peace with myself over taking something out on Credit which I'm very hesitant to do.
After thoroughly investigating the agreements on the website I was happy to take out the "Pay nothing until 6 months" package on the item priced at £999 and I planned to pay it off before it got to that point as I currently have over half of what I need and another quarter guaranteed.
I was informed by the salesman that this offer no longer applied due to comet losing vast amounts of money on people paying up front and that I would have to take out a guaranteed 24 or 36 month payment plan and I would not be allowed to pay anything more than the monthly payment to it over that period.
I was hesitant to tie myself into something for two years, paying one thing up front is fine but thinking that I'd keep that amount of money without touching it for two years seemed a little iffy, I mean if i really needed it I'd use it and then I'd still have comet to pay.
It felt rather suspicious to me, I was wondering if anyone had the same issue with them? I'm not really sure where else to go.

if you only need another £500 why not try for a 0% cc instead -0

I think you're right, I've applied to Amazon for their Mastercard as they're selling the macbook for only £880 and it's 0% on all Amazon products for 9 months. Only 16.9 after that too which kicks the !!! of comets 24.9 and Argos' 29.9%0 -
Glad you didn't fall for the 24 or 36 month repayments at a ridiculous rate.
If your credit isn't as good as to get a CC, you could look at something like Very . co . uk
Ok that might seem like a silly suggestion with their 39.9% APR, and they might be more expensive. BUT just taking a look they do a 13" macbook pro for £999.99, but you get 10% off your first order and they do buy now pay in 12 month promotions for all customers on orders over £50.
The only thing is I don't know if you can get 10% off your first order and then use the 12 month promotion at the same time, so you would be best off opening an account over the phone and asking.0 -
...Or you could save £300 and get an equivalently specced PC rather than playing the "Mac Tax".
HP DV3-2310 on the comet website for example.
If it is really what floats your boat you can run OSX on PC hardware these days anyway.0
