London & Country Mortgages - Any Good???

Options
Hi Guys,

Today i went on Moneysupermarket to find some rate on mortgages and when i filled out the details it forwarded my details to an broker (I think thats what they call them) and within 30 seconds i had a call.

The guy on the phone did sound very helpful.

I was wondering if anyone has used London & Country Mortgages before?

Should i still shop around or stick with them as they seem to have a good number of options, loads better than the rate i got from RBS earlier in the day.

Any help would be great. Even if its recommendations on another broker.

Thanks,

Matthew

I have been chatting to them over the last couple of weeks. I spoke to a bloke called Nathan Moor - was very helpful and gave me good advice :-) I have gone with a post office mortgage which they couldnt offer me as you need to deal with PO direct but I think they are very good for advice. Good Luck.

Yes. They wouldnt still be in business if no-one used them. ;)

Generally comments on here seem to be that they are fine if you dont want the hand holding and are just using them to get a deal and that you are ok with using a direct process. The negative comments have tended to come from people that needed more hand holding or were not suited to using a direct process.

They are not independent and will only consider commission paying deals. So, an independent may work out better.

    Hi,

We went to London and Country, and they were great for us.

The advisor I spoke to initially was Jordan Williams, and I would heartily recommend him. Really nice guy, and always helpful.

To be fair I wasn't so enamoured with our Case Manager. He wasn't terrible, but he was quite bad at answering emails.

    10/10 for Jordan, 8/10 overall.

    :)

    Cheers.

  • They've been fab with our mortgage. Great deal, speedy responses to mails, sound, personalised advice and talked us though some tricky missed payment issues on our credit files. Very happy so far.

When I spoke with them this morning, the Advisor told me they were 'whole of market'. From what you say this would mean he was lying to me?

Just to say, I found the advice given sensible, practical, and very good. I will certainly be going back to them!

Whole of Market is not the same as Independent under the confusing FSA rules. To be called Independent you have to offer a fee only option where any commission is rebated to the customer. You can be "whole of market" and still only deal with lenders that will deal with brokers, or even a representative panel of such lenders.

No. He is saying they are whole of market. He didnt say he was independent.

Whole of market is not actually whole of market. The FSA classification is that its wide enough to be considered whole of market. However, in theory just 10 lenders could be whole of market. L&C is not independent and will only consider commission paying lenders.

Independent is as close to "real" whole of market that you can get and can include non commission paying deals. It can also include those that wont deal with brokers directly. These can be cheaper deals than the commission paying ones.

edit: luckyfool beat me to it.
