Question about heather

Options
I love my allotment and I hate slugs and snails.

I would rather slugs stayed away from our plot, as I dislike the idea of slug pellets. I used slug pellets a couple of times, and it looked like slug masaca, yak!

I think I found a solution! I am going to plant slug ressistant plants like lavender and rosemarry on the borders of my plot.

BBC gardening web page gives names of 92 slug resisstant plants!!

It would be nice to plant some heather too. It is so nice on the eye, and does not look like something slugs would munch on.

Garden centers charge £3-4 for a pot of heather.

In the best possible OS taste, I would like to get if for free (almost). Has anybody ever tried to dig heather from the wilde and plant it in their gardens, please?

I know heather grows on hills in Scotland and North England. We live in London.

Thanks so much.

But the slugs will just bypass those and still eat your other plants. THey don;t actually REPEL the slugs, they just won;t eat those particular plants.

Sorry ot be the bearer of bad tidings.

    hmmm...

maybe I should put some gravel or bark around my border plants? Do you think that will stop them?

Heather grows like a weed up here but down south you need lime tolerant varieties. We managed to find some in a garden centre and grew it successfully.

I find gardening very different up here to down south. The air is different for one thing, more bracing. It is a lot more humid down south.

London has hard water and calcium deposits, Scotland has soft water. That is what affects the soil and what you can grow.

Anything sharp will help. I have laid some pruned !!!!!ly rose stems around anything that is vulnerable plus it stops the cats using the bed as a toilet.
