wanna buy a polycotton 7 - 8 man tent

Hi, have seen the outwell wolf lake 7 but at £899 its way too expensive for a moneysaver to buy (even though we would get our money's worth as we are keen campers)

basically looking for a three or four bedroom tent , preferrably in polycotton. has anyone seen any good deals around? we have been given £400 to put towards getting a new tent.

it has to have an awning on , so no basic tunnel tents.

  • Any particular reason it has to be polycotton?

erm well not vitally i guess, but after seeing inside a outwell bear lake i was impressed with how quiet it is inside and the features such as "proper" curtains etc... i know thats daft as it is just a tent. but i have heard they are much warmer too? our old tent was a bog standard polyester tent and we where really pleased with it, the reason for upgrading to a bigger one is we now have kids. i have seen some good deals on lot of tents, the outwell maryland being one of them, but for some reason i keep going back to the polycotton ones.

Not sure if its still there or what price it is, but BCH round the corner from me have one of the lakes (a big one) in their display and were having an ex display sale recently. May have gone, may still be too expensive, but may be worth a phone call - phone number is 01225 764977.

Incidentally the poly cotton ones last longer - polyester photodegrades in sunlight so after a while becomes brittle and starts to break up.

OK you're asking a lot for your money, however Outdoor world have a Sprayway Canyon 8+2 in cotton for £499 - its a 4 room tent - 2 either end of a tunnel which at first glance isn't what you want - however for another £79 you can get a front extension (albeit possibly polyester) which gives you your canopy area. A cheaper option is the Sprayway Ravine 6+2 which appears to have 3 standard rooms plus an extra room, has a canopy but isn't poly cotton.

Outwell will be expensive for their quality, and there aren't many more decent brands doing 3+ room tents with a canopy in cotton at all let alone at around £400!

I bought an all-cotton Hypercamp Pyramide tent fairly recently from http://www.tent-tents.com. Simply the best tent I have ever owned, takes me 20 minutes to pitch solo, is cool in the sun, warm in the cold, doesn't even move in a gale (and I mean, it doesn't even flap!), I can stand up in it and will last me for years... It isn't what you are after, but that website also has a number of poly cotton tents as well, very reasonably priced. The Dutch seem to specialise in cotton and poly cotton tents.
