Defaulted Loan/ PPI

Hi
I'll try and make this short.
About 6 years ago I took out a loan with My Then Bank, Barclays, for about 6k, and was happily :rotfl: paying the repayments of about £180 pm, until about 3 yrs ago when things had got so bad in my Self Employed status that it got to a point where it was a case of "Feed the kids, Not pay the Loan" which I had to do, and I defaulted on the loan.
Anyway, that's what I did and Barclays started calling all hours of the day and night for their money, I couldn't pay, and had gone unemployed as I couldn't afford to run the family on the little work I was getting, and I didn't have another option.
So I went to the CB and worked through it with them, and arranged to pay a sum of approx £29.00 pm, by this time, Barclays had handed the case over to it's collections dept, and they accepted this offer.
Anyway, I have been paying this religiously via Standing Order ever since.
The thing is, I don't get any information from them regarding how the debt is going, no statements, Nothing, which I think is wrong.
Also, I have realised that I was paying PPI whilst servicing the loan, and was wondering if I had any comeback through that, or would they claim that because I had almost gone Voluntary Unemployed, that it breached the conditions of the insurance ?
Any advice would be very gratefully received.

Regards
Paul

  • Hi, not sure about the PPI, guess the best thing to do is put in a claim and see what happens. The worst thing they can do is say no. The terms and conditions on the original form (assuming you still have it) might make it clear too.

I think you need to write to Barclays and ask for monthly statements so you can keep track of things.

    Good luck

Have a look on this site at the PPI forum. I am wondering if PPI was ever suitable for you being self employed. If it wasn't then you have a claim against Barclays for selling it to you. As mentioned by happycamel, you should ask them for statements to ensure that things are on track.
