Washing Machine Disaster - Advice Please

Options
My washing machine has just packed up, but not before depositing oil(?) all over the load of whites it was washing.

A complete load of the boys school shirts are now covered in black polka dots. They seems to have the pattern of the dimples in the drum spread across them.

Can anyone advise how I should attempt to salvage them?
Best to soak them in hot or cold water?
I've tried spraying them with 'shout' which was the only stain remover I have in the cupboard and rubbing them together by hand with cool water and the surface layer seems to come off but the polka dot effect is still obvious.
They are currently in the sink in lukewarm water with loads of soda crystals, while I have a little panic!

Any advice much appreciated........

Have you tried Stardrops or Surf or Vanish?

All of these have helped me at one time or another.
