Guys, my sister has been working for Horsham district council for 14 years, now moved to the same job, same pay in Crawley, isnt the scheme the same(?), or does she have to start afresh, and or should she transfer the lump sum into her new jobs scheme even though its the same terms etc, your thoughts are appreciated
Indeed if there is an online site with answers to questions to this type of question, let me know, thanks.

I would expect that she would be in the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) for both jobs. Her service should be treated as continuous i.e. as if she had worked for Crawley since 14 years ago.

Thanks for that, I will get her to check all these things before she arrives at any rash decision!0

She's quite right to check carefully. Her pension is probably her biggest asset (unless she owns a house)0

Parisien, she should also be entitled to continuous service for sick, annual leave etc as long as there was no gap between jobs; even one day counts as break in service!0

Well, its a bit late now asking about her break in service, am sure there were a few days between jobs, but will ask that too!
Should she have been given this advice before she left her previous post?0 -

You can sometimes pay back the time missed, ie...say if you go on strike.0 -

Moving from Horsham to Crawley, your sister is covered by the same LGPS administering authority, West Sussex. She will be asked if she would like to combine her periods of membership together, and providing her full time equivalent salary is the same or higher. it is going to be beneficial to do so. As she has moved employer she has to make the decision. It is not automatic. Any decision on whether to combine benefits or not has to be made within twelve months of starting the new employment.
If she would like me to look at her individual case I can do so, as this is the day job. Just send me a PM. Obviously I am only allowed to give personal info direct to her, otherwise I will be in trouble. I can check to make sure notifications of leaving one employer and joining another have been received.
Hope I can help.

Carol, many thanks for the advice and offer, her new salary is just £20/40 less....believe it or not, not sure why, but will this matter?
So basically she should send back forms to say yes she will combine?
If there are any other questions she should ask, feel free to let me know, have a virtual drink on me on your hols!!
