You can also try those cheap curry sauces in jars, if you are near an Asda/Tesco (if not, try to remember to buy one next time you're in another town). Prices vary from 4p to 12p/jar, but they're just like chinese takeaway curry sauce. Another one I use is the Mayflower (brand usually seen in Spar or Costcutter) curry powder. It's in a box and says 9 portions, but when you open the box it's just one plastic takeaway box so you can spoon out just how much you need and pour boiling water on.

I always have the Mayflower powder in .... and a couple of tins of GOOD mushy peas (about 35-40p) so I never have to buy either from a chippy. Mind you, I usually only go to the chippy twice a year.

Have you tried Wing Yip curry sauce concentrate, take a dollop from the jar and add water. very tasty. Sold in Sainsbury in the oriental food section.

I love the bisto one, you can make it as thick or thin as you want. Although if you want it very thick sometimes the granules don't all absorb so you get some lumps, but it's still gorgeous! I love it over chips and sausages or white unbreaded fish. It's my healthier chippy lol

Goldfish brand Curry sauce concentrate in tesco http://www.mysupermarket.co.uk/tesco-price-comparison/Stock_Sauce_Mix_And_Gravy/Goldfish_Chinese_Curry_Sauce_405g.html

paste that you mix with water. much nicer than the one from my local chip shop and WAY much cheaper in the long run :)
