Martin Lewis Changed My Life....

  • I have learned so much from this site and it really has changed my life. The way I think about money and the way I treat my money. I dont waste money like I used to - I am educated now on how to deal with my finances. I would never have had the confidence to deal with claiming back bank charges or sorting out my own re mortgage if I hadnt found this site. I have saved so much money through c/card tarting and changing all of my suppliers ie. gas, electricity, phone/broadband/TV, home insurances and even paid off two overdrafts. I dont pay interest any more - I save money in high interest accounts now. I was introduced to Quidco and have so far got over £200.00 back in cash for things that I would have bought anyway. In the space of 6 months of being on here my finances have been totally turned around from always being in my overdraft to now being in credit and that is such a weight off my mind. I can make plans for the future. I can not thank Martin Lewis enough and all of the brilliant people on here for their advice.

  • well our outgoings are down £500 a month, that is a start to us. Ive learned to shop around.

I would never of thought of using my tesco tokens to pay for something before MSE, we now have joint RAC cover for next 12 months. saving a further £20 a month from september 1st.

£36.50 left in tesco vouchers to go towards a treat on the kids before thier new baby sister or brother arrives, it would of gone on groceries ! shamefully i used to buy most of our grocery from m&S.

extreme ...but we dont ring anyone anymore .. they ring us ..we have broad band and i email them if i need to tell them something. being a SAHM I used to speak to my mum every day without fail.

For many years friends have sniggered at my frugal ways and my endeavours to turn each minute of the day into an earning related activity in some way or another, mse has allowed me to help others who for no other reason than thinking I am completely nuts have thus far failed to help themselves.

  • well as some of you may remember when we rang the cccs back in feb we were advised to go bankrupt at first & only just managed to juggle the figures so that we were able to start a dmp. since then we have been able to increase our monthly payment to the cccs 4 times & are now paying £709 a month with a dfd of 2009 instead of 2037! If I hadn't found this fantastic site we would never have been able to make all the savings we have & be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel so thank you Martin & all the fantastic community on MSE :T

I am now in control of my life (yes life) after joining this site. My money worries were so bad that I didnt communicate with people properly, very low self esteem, no sleep, constantly worried. always crying etc... I felt so bad, and did not feel that anyone would understand. I started to feel that my life was so bad and out of control because of debt. I often had very dark thoughts and thought that things could not get any worse.

Now, I am soooo happy!! Within days of looking at this site I was feeling so motivated and very positive about the future that I could not beleive that I had been feeling that bad for so many years. This site is very addictive, motivating, and the rest of the DFW's are so helpful and non judgemental. It made me realise that I was not alone in this situation, and that I could start to do something positive for myself. This has had a knock on effect on the rest of my life. I love my job, I have made many friends, starting to lose weight, and am sleeping through the night!!! And I have money!! I cannot thank Martin enough for this site, and to everybody that contributes. I recommend MSE to anybody that will listen, because I know that there are many people within earshot (at work, friends etc) that have debt problems but are too scared to say anything. I have helped many people with SOA's and budegting ideas its untrue!!!

I think that this site/budgeting should be on the school curriculum as we are a 'spend, spend, spend' culture which is getting out of control, and we should tackle this with people/children as early as possible.

So Martin, and all the contributors, lurkers, newbies, regulars and oldies.. Thank You for saving my life...

(Gosh I sound mushy, so dont tell anyone I told you all that!!)

~Finding this site by pure luck.

~ Although not doing so well this month I have started a spending diary, something I would never have dreamed about doing in the past.

~ Its nice to know you are not alone and that there are others worse off than you are. Everyone has the same goal, to be debt free.

~ Sorting myself out with support from people here being able to finally tell my parents about my debt, think I would still be hiding it from them now if I hadn't have found this site.

~ Picking up little tips and ideas from other threads.

Its not just Martin who has helped me but others who post as well, the support on this forum is invaluable.
