NHS dentistry and personal choice?

I have an NHS dentist who advised I needed crowns and originally said that this would have to be done privately and would cost in the region of £2000. He then came up with the idea of refering me to a junior dentist within the practice who would do the crowns on the NHS as part of his training, thus all 6 of the crowns would be done for the Band C charge (around £200). I was made up. I have now seen the junior dentist who wants to do composite fillings instead, something that won't work as I've had them before! Anyone got any idea how much flexibility there is with what I can ask for here? I want crowns desperately but cannot afford the private charge so is what the NHS junior dentist proposes the final answer? Thanks for your help and input! :(

The dentist has to carry out any work that is clinically necessary in order to maintain your dental health.

They have no obligation on the NHS to make you look wonderful.

Where your particular case falls on that spectrum is impossible for me to know.

I'm not sure why the first dentist thought the 'junior' one would do it, or why the 'junior' one didn't feel it appropriate.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.
