Closed account still being charged?

Nationwide have written to me saying that my account is closed. My account is overdrawn by £500+ made up purely of charges, the repayment of which is currently in dispute as it was an error by them that lead to me being charged in the first place.

My question is this- if they have now, finally, closed the account will they stop adding charges every month? Or do I have to wait until either the dispute is settled or they get fed up of arguing with me and pass it to a DCA?

DCA can only add charges agreed to in your bank accounts terms and conditions. Any charges they add that are not in the agreed T&Cs are unlawful and cannot be charged. Not everyone knows this and so they add them on anyway.
If the account is just been handled by the DCA the bank can add charges inline with the accounts terms. But the DCA themselves should not be adding charges.

If this has been a long process have you considered getting the FOS involved?

It hasn't been passed to a DCA yet but I expect it will soon. I'm trying to claim back the charges as the overdraft was caused solely by charges in the first place but every month they add more charges. Today they have written saying that I can't have access to my account unless I pay as it is now closed. I just wondered at what point will they stop adding these bl00dy charges?
