advice needed please

Hi everybody
I need some advice

10 years ago a house my now ex husband bought got repossesed as far as i remember i was only a consenter on the mortgage and it was only in his name ,when the house sold there was a deffacit of £2000 which we were both chassed for i refused to pay it and have never heard anything in over 8 years iv never had the repposetion on my credit history nor had any trouble getting credit or the mortgage i have now, anyway my ex husband announced last week that he had payed the £2000 pounds off as they had finally tracked him down anyway to cut a long story short he wants me to pay him half the money back or if i refuse he will consult a solicitor .so what do you guys think any advice will be a help.

Please feel free to move this post if its in the wrong place.

Why is a person that handles your money called a broker?!
  • i might be wrong but if he paid this off without getting consent from you before hand that you were going to pay half then there is nothing he can do,

Get a solicitor, or at least go to CAB. Do not acknowledge any responsibility for this debt and DO NOT COMMUNICATE WITH EX until you have received professional advice.
I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

  • Thanks for the replies guys

ex came to drop son off tonight and asked whether i was going to pay him ,so i said that im taking legal advise over it (to say he was a tad unhappy at that would be an understatement).Am i right in thinking as hes allready paid the collection agency all the money that he would haft to take me to court in order to make me pay him half the money back.? hope you still get the first consultation free with a solicitor as i wont get legal aid and cant afford to pay a solicitor to fight my case for me.

  • I don't think he can do anything but perhaps you should call Citizens Advice Bureau to see where you stand, so that at least you know your rights before you decide on what to do.
