Shall I give creditors the wrong landline number?

Can I give creditors the wrong landline number to stop them calling? They would still have my mobile number which is OK as I can switch it off when I need to.
Can I then refuse to give them the correct landline number or could this make things worse for me - as I'd like them to freeze interest etc.
