I always remember my dad making me and my brother a house from extra large cardboard boxes recycled from work and making the biggest indoor house with doors, window etc, best fun ever we spend a whole week colouring in the inside walls of our den like wallpaper.
These boxes are brill and take me back...thansk for the mem:T oriesThanks to MSE and all the moneysaving tips I can now work PT (instead of FT) to pay the bills and still have fun!!:beer:0 -
I wonder if they come in a box......:rotfl:0

isnt this cruelty to children?
i kept arguing with the missus over boxes for our son, i explained that they have more fun and develop their imaginations by playing with boxes and that we shouldn't buy him any thing expensive for birthday or xmas, only give him boxes, she thought i was joking, i wasnt.
she spent 200 quid last year on him at the age of 2, what a ridiculous amount of money to spend. i got him £20 worth of stuff and the biggest boxes i could find.
and yes, for weeks on end he played only with the boxes and the toys he already had before xmas and his birthday.
this year is different but we could have saved loads if only she had listened to me, his expectations would also not have been raised for this year.
im now trying to convince the missus that he should have marks and sparks plimsoles until 12 years old as there is NO way i will pay out for designer trainers when his feat are growing faster than i earn money.what is the plural of moose?

I quite agree on shoe prices even though my little un manages to wear shoes out before his feet grow. I don't go for M&S though, get yourselves down to Sports World and buy him the named trainers for less than Clarks ones!
I do this for DS so that when he starts school at "Chav Central" where they don't make the kids wear school shoes he will fit in with the others rather than be a source of ridicule. When we move away and he starts at another school though its school shoes and woolies plimsoles! The best things in life are NOT free - but they sure are cheaper with MSE!:j0 -

We did the exact same thing when we were kids, me and my little brother built it with my nan, and we spent hours on end playing in it!!!
It is a great memory from chilhood and makes me think of the good times we had with our nan (now passed away).
I agree that boxes provide much more fun for kids than any toys & are much better for building thier little imaginations than sitting in front of a video games console!
Thanks OP for reminding me that you don't need to spend a fortune for your kids to have fun:T

I saw a cardboard playhouse in Home Bargains last week. Think it was £5 and came with pens to colour it in.
Busy working Mum of 3
