Tesco Price Cuts

Tesco have some big price cuts on food and homewares across their stores. You can get the Tesco engery saving bulbs for 10p various watts which all last 10years. They will also stock them in their Tesco Express stores. Also currys sauces for 41p. Have a good look around for the yellow price cuts stickers. :T

I think you'll find the phrase is "up to 10 years".This does not mean they will last 10 years.
And in my experience they will last a lot less than 10 years.
3 years ago I moved house and installed 10 brand new energy saving bulbs in the house on the day I moved in. Three of them died on the day they were installed, and a fourth died the next day. Since then every one has been replaced at least once, with the ones on the stairs and the one in the bathroom being replaced at least twice.
Top marks to you for pointing out that you we can buy them cheap, but please don't say they will last 10 years. The manufacturer won't dare to do that, so you shouldn't.
It's "Up to 10 years" and that means "It might not work when you install it, or it might work for 10 years"
Sorry to rant on, but I hate energy saving light bulbs, and I particularly hate Philips. Because every time I return one of their sub standard sorry excuses for a light bulb they send another one with an invoice telling me they have given me a light bulb free of charge.0 -
Oh dear. Considering you hate these energy saving light bulbs your views are very biased.
Previous to buying from Tesco, the Philips ones I am currently using have been working fine for the past 2years.
Thank you for the corrections and considering I am not representing the manufacturer quoting whether they last 10 yrs when it should "up to 10 years" is hardly detrimental.0 -
I dislike energy saving bulbs too haha, got me a case of 100 100w bayonet bulbs for £30 incl delivery on ebay haha. I just don't find the energy saving ones bright enough, even the newer "improved" ones, also I find I get more migraines when I have them in my room, unsure why but a test did prove it seems to be the link.0

Thanks for the information Nordmia, I'm down to my last one.0 -
Energy saving bulbs are one of the 21st centuries biggest cons. They save relatively little energy in the first place, and when you factor in how much non-recyclable waste (large plastic base that old ones never had) and mercury you are dumping in landfills every time you throw one away (often way short of the claimed time), they are actually worse for the environment than the older types. I know you can recycle them if you are lucky enough to have a collection centre near by, but we don't..so straight into the bin with them.We have removed your signature - please contact the forum team if you are not sure why - Forum Team0
