  • Having a cheap weekend so far which I am pleased about. We have been out and about this morning looking for school shoes and driving home we realised that we had no bread left for lunch. Normally we would have just gone to a pub or mcdonalds for lunch but instead we went to tescos and picked up a hot chicken and a big baguette for lunch. It was very enjoyable and a hell of a lot cheaper!!

Weather very unpredictable here at the moment, but have just hung some washing out and hoping that it will dry before the rain starts.

Hope everyone is having a good break.

Good idea about the chicken and I bet it tasted so good!

Good luck in your quest, I too started OP-ing in August , it's addictive isn't it

I can't be bothered updating this anymore
  • Hi Iris - Yes chicken did taste lovely!! And yes OP are addictive.

2nd Mortgage payment went out yesterday and I am pleased to say that the calculations on my spreadsheet were spot on!!

Nothing else to report really, working from home again today for the last time until the next school hols as kids go back tomorrow (Yippee!!). I actually find it hard working from home as I can't seem to concentrate on work and something else always seems to crop up but it can't be helped as the kids are not old enough to look after themselves yet so until then I have just got to carry on with it.

Nearly lunchtime, diet has gone completely out of the window at the moment as have been rather naughty and bought loads of goodies when we went shopping last night. Think I may add my weight loss/increase in my signature to see if this helps.

I'm still unsure what to do about emergency savings especially with the interest rates being so low. I do have a cc that I have for a back up in case my car, boiler goes wrong. Now I'm sure some of you will be saying that having a cc as emergency fund is wrong but I think until the interest rates increase for savings I think it would be better to reduce my mortgage while I can.

Hello & welcome :) I prefer to bung all money into OP's -but I can get them back. Have you checked with your provider to see if you can get any back?

I have a very small emergency fund of two months p/t wages, (equiv to one f/t wage) and I also do a virtual change pot where anything under £10 (sometimes just £5) gets transferred into my savings account, This is just a couple of quid here and there every couple of days but it soon mounts up.

All the little things you start to do will soon add up and you will be amazed at how much you can save, tweaking things here and there and looking through your bank and payments going out. I am sure there are bills that you can reduce or even stop that you are not using anymore etc. I think I have taken mine down to as small as I can possibly get them.

You will find that you start to have an obsessive trait occuring and you will hate having to buy something that you didnt account for, you will be joyous when you get a bargain etc.

  • Gallygirl - Once I pay into our mortgage we cannot get the funds back as such, we can use the funds to do an underpayment providing there is enough funds to cover the monthly payment and we can only do this 3 times a year, I think.

As mentioned in a previous post I will be saving up a fund to use as emergencies but want to clear my last credit card first.

Not doing very good on the weight loss as I have actually put on 4lb this week!!! Back on it today and I have purchased the '30 day shred' dvd and will be starting this tonight.

Spent no unnecessary money this weekend which I am pleased about, other than that nothing else to report on the finances.

Can someone please tell me how I attach other posts into here as I can't seem to find out how to do it.

  • Did the '30 day shred' last night for the first time and I now ache all over:eek: will be doing it tonight too regardless of how I am feeling as I am determined to reach my goal this time. I am terrible of starting the weight loss and then giving in and then moaning that I haven't lost any weight, but not this time.

My next payment towards my mortgage savings comes out tomorrow so I will be updating my figures. Have had a good chat with my OH over the weekend and he has said that he will be able to start paying into the savings pot for the mortgage next March when our loan finishes. As we are restricted to what we can do whilst in the fixed rate we are going to put the funds in a savings pot (interest rate is higher than the mortgage rate) and build this up for at least a year and we may then put this on the mortgage or we may wait until the fixed term finishes in June 2012.

Hope everyone is having a good day.

If the savings rate is higher I would keep paying into that, it makes sense.
My friend is determined to be 'thin' but it just seems like torture to me but I guess I would do it if I wasnt at a weight I was happy with.

  • That's the thing Pammy I haven't been happy with my weight for a long time. We have been invited to a wedding next April and I am determined to look my best for that. I am starting now as I know if I keep putting it off I won't lose the weight. Just done day 2 of 'the shred', wasn't as bad as I thought.
