Hi All,
We have been receiving letters and phone calls for a person who doesnt live at our address.
The first letter asked if the addressee had previously lived at such and such address and if not to contact them. Well I did live at this address 5 years ago and the name looks simular but is not mine. When I say simular its too many letters in the names both first and surnames, almost to the effect that it looks foreign!
I had 4 of these letters at our previous address but always 'returned to sender not known at this address'.
recently we took out a loan with tesco finance through RBS and then these letters start arriving again and the phone calls come daily asking for this strange named person, we are EX-Directory! anyway my partner has answered and said no nobody lives here by that name, then they ask well is that. No.....such and such road?
I have photographed the envelopes before re-posting them and I can read them without opening them by holding them upto the light! the latest one is offering the person a significant reduction of the amount owing.
I have read thousands of entries on here and other forums regarding this company so know that they are persistent shall I continue to keep returning the letters? or should I contact someone.
I am wondering if it is a case of identity theft given the mispelling of the name, if so they wouldnt deal with me as I have to confirm i am the named person which I am not..please help!
many thanks.

Keep returning to sender, you have already told them no one by this name lives here.
If i were you, get the £2 reports from each of the 3 credit agencies - http://www.ico.gov.uk/for_the_public/topic_specific_guides/credit.aspx
See what accounts are showing up on there. if there are accounts you do not recognise, then tell the credit agencies about this and see what they suggest.
I can only guess the loan application has linked your previous address to the new one, hence the return of the letters.
if fraud has taken place, consider getting a CIFAS flag put up, notify the police just to get a crime reference number, and notify the creditors of fraud given the crime reference number. Its then an internal matter for them.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.

Hi Dark Convict
I have access to my credit report and my rating is excellent, no mention of this name or debts etc, what started worrying me a bit was the telephone messages left by these people have started to morph into my name if that makes sense? ie, my first name followed by this strange surname. I am wondering if RW are phishing and trying to hopefully get me to pay somebody elses debt.
Even if it is identity fraud surely I will have to wait until they actually accuse me of being this person before I can contact police and then eventually take them for deformation of character?
I am happy just to continue to return their letters as it costs me not a penny.
many thanks.0 -
Have you checked all 3 credit agencies to be sure?
Different ones hold different data as creditors can report to 0 or all 3 off them.
I would agree if nothing shows up, then just keep returning the letters. You do need to wait for them to ask you for payment before you can really use the prove it letter templates on the website.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
