Royal Mail 'junk mail opt out' only lasts 2 years...

Just a warning.

I like to avoid all junk mail/unsolicited calls so have registered in all the usual places and been careful with my personal details. This has been very effective.

Recently I started getting unaddressed mail from with my post. Strange, as I thought I had opted out of this with Royal Mail. On investigation it appears that the Royal Mail opt out only last 2 years, where as the Mailing Preference Service lasts 5. They of course won't remid you of this, you have to re-register. Also unlike, the MPS, they make if difficult (you have to post a form off), and they give you dire warnings about the how you will miss essential info if they don't deliver this junk ( i.e must be a nice earner for them !) Oh dear whats happened to the postal service......

• as soon as this opt out thing came along..a couple of months latter ..the posties start delivering junk mail with no address on it .

the gov should put a stop to this ..as it's creating unnecessary waste .

Pity there isnt also an opt out for curry and takeaway leaflets (money launderers),fraudulent clothes collectors and assorted other carp which continually litters my doormat. The other day someone rammed a yellow pages through the letter box. I extracted it,waked to the back door and dropped it directly into the recycle bin. Isnt Yellow pages totally irrelevant in todays society?
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

I'd really like to stop getting post from random companies. The problem is the post service make a lot of money out of this stuff, so it would be very hard to get them to put a stop to it. They make a few concessions for customers who protest about it, but as far as I can tell have no plans to really stop it.

I do have a no junk mail sign on my door, which quite a lot of people do accept and I do see people out posting stuff pass by our house. Hard to say just how much it stops, but for the sake of sticking one bit of paper on the door, if it stops one leaflet it has saved more paper than it consumed and everything after that is a saving.

You stop it by opting out.

To register you first need to ask Royal Mail for an opt-out form. You can request the form by sending an e-mail with your name and address to optout@royalmail.com

If you have any problems getting the form you'll find a copy here:
http://www.elblowfly.org.uk/repo/rmoptout.pdf

Personally, with all junk mail I adopt the 'you will carry it both ways' principle, putting it all back into the letterbox with 'return to sender' on all items. For the door to door (which is unaddressed) I find putting it in an envelope and sending it to:
Freepost RRBT-ZBXB-TTTS
Royal Mail Door to Door Opt Outs
Kingsmead House
Oxpens Road
OXFORD
OX1 1RX
handy....

For Pizza/local leaflets, same treatment, put in mail with no stamp and sent to nearest branch *hoping* this will result in surcharging for the recipient.

Did I mention I hate spam & junk mail?
