So a couple of questions for you good people... Firstly, are they in breach of contract for not allowing me to cancel via Barclays Dublin which it so clearly states I should be able to do? And secondly, do I keep fighting just to have the PPI taken off and refunded back to my current loan as it states in their terms and conditions that this IS possible or do I just go with another loan?? I swear i'm going greyer and greyer by the day!!!

Thanks in advance folks for any suggestions!

There are breaching their own terms and conditions which is a breach of the contract between you. Ask them for their complaints procedure and set a deadline to receive it. If you haven't received it by your deadline, complain to the FSA.

Don't take out a new loan. Ever.

  • Thanks ZTD. I REALLY don't want to take out another loan! I had them quote me for one £10800 over 10 years which works out at about £187 a month. OK, so its alot cheaper than the £272 i'm paying now, but thats over 7 years at an APR of 15.9%... The new loan would be at 17.9%, The reduced payments would be ideal, but i'm just getting incredibly cheesed off with the way these huge corporations think they can treat people  so i'm determined just to get the PPI removed from my current loan without the added expense of taking on a further loan over a longer term just to reduce my payments!

And whilst i've fired off and sent the 'Get rid of my PPI' letter, i've also fired off and sent the 'oh, and whilst you're on my case, heres a cheque for a tenner... send me the last 6 years worth of statements you s*ds' letter!! Hmph... They really should know better than to annoy a woman with raging PMT!!! ;)

    Hi Tina,

I'm with you on the consolidation loan companies - I have a hatred of the loan ads that make it sound so easy - £25K at only £200 a month - humph! The reality is it's over 15 years (cunningly disguised as 180 months!) and you pay back £42K in total - ridiculous!

Good luck with the PPI - they clearly state it can be cancelled at any time, so hopefully should get sorted soon. Depending when you first spoke to them about this though you might want to ask for the cancellation to be backdated (i.e. if you've already paid a monthly payment with it included since first asking them to cancel it, it's down to their incompentence and staff not knowing what the deal is!)

  • Thanks Storm for the good luck wishes!

I've been incredibly bold and told them I want a FULL refund seeing as how they are not complying with their side of the bargain by allowing me to cancel it in writing within 30 days!

Lets see what !!!! and bull excuse they come up with!!

Ya know... Half of me feels incredibly foolish for getting myself so worked up about this!! If i hadn't been stupid enough to decide I needed a new sofa/garden landscaping/a couple of holidays etc etc, then I wouldn't be in this stupid mess to start with... and I really really don't expect to have my debt paid for me.. If I did I'd go to the bank of mum and dad :p They just drive me mental praying on people who already in such a vunerable state anyhow! It really does make my blood boil... Not so much for me.... but for those people who have no idea where they are getting their next meal from whilst the fat cats are lapping it up in their Mercs and Masaratis paid for by chucking extortionate expenses on top of someones already mounting debt!!!

Me, I am quite strong, but that will work for some people
  • I'm thinking of wrapping it in a couple of pieces of lambs liver and a few pieces of kidney just to be absolutely doubly sure I won't touch it!! How anyone can touch something that filters toxins and wee is beyond me!!! :p

I've just read through this entire thread and I have to say you're an inspiration Tina.

I'm in the very fortunate position of being debt-free now (except my mortgage obviously) but I struggle to keep my head above water some months due to horrific spending habits, so seeing (or rather reading) your enthusiasm is superb and gives me the extra bonus to keep trying.
  • Thanks Cazzdevil!! :o

Quick update.... So far i'm 100 quid up in bids on ebay with a couple of days still to go.... its on a pretty decent camera that ive used half a dozen times, so im expecting the bids to go up at the end of the auction *fingers crossed*, have made 110 quid profit on Amazon and have 120 quid worth of transactions tracked via Quidco!! Yayyyyyy me!!! :T All to get bunged off my Barclaycard!!

I REALLY cant remember the last time I felt so confident and at peace with myself.... and I've come to the conclusion at the end of the day its only money.... its a problem ive started to address, and noone can take from me what I dont have to give them!!

Barclays can still kiss the fattest part of my bum though!!! :p
  • Oops!! I haven't updated this in a while... D'oh!!

OK... Where am I up to??

Managed to feed me, OH and DS on 20 quid a week!! I'm actually quite enjoying it... Can't remember the last time I cooked and baked so much!! I've even put in a request for a breadmaker  off Santa (ok, mum!!)

All my cleaning stuff (I had a different bottle of something for every bloody room) seemed to run out at the same time!! Now my cupboard under the sink (you know you all keep the cleaning stuff there!!) contains tres cheap washing powder from Aldi, 3 bottles of Stardrops (buy 2 get 1 free) and a mega sized bottle of white vinegar!..... Oh the space!!!

Heard nothing back from Barclays so far (suprise suprise) about cancelling PPI and my last 6 years of statements!! Pfft!!! They're quick enough to send me letters when I'm overdrawn!

Changed over to Talk Talk... Just waiting for the broadband to 'go live'

Cancelled about 10 DD's, which I didnt really have any idea what they were for... Mobile phone insurance (for mobile phones from 3 years ago etc!!), Crap health insurance! (I must have had 3 seperate policies that all pretty much paid out for the same reasons)

BOUGHT pet insurance for 7 quid a month... Came to the conclusion that OK, i'm supposed to be saving money, but I'd be up a certain creek without a paddle if I was landed with a huge vets bill for puppy (ok, hes nearly 3... hes still my puppy though! :o )

Transferred some balances and overpaid on highest interest card this month whilst minimum payments on the others. All 3 have roughly the same balance on them now, and before I'd pretty much had made an equal (or minimum) payment on them all

Made 190 quid on Amazon, and 170 quid on ebay :j Still got about 20 things listed on Amazon, and am in the process of putting all my beloved CD's on there *sobs*.. a girls gotta do and all that... Have about 140 quid tracked on Quidco, 1500 piggy points, and about 3 quid in various surveys, and I'm off mystery shopping this morning!! Oooooo, the excitment!!

I'll post an updated SOA later when I get back from my undercover shopping trip!! Just have to keep chanting the mantra...
