Creditors/DCA - No Response

Hey All.

I have been on a self managed DMP with my creditors for over 6 months now.

I deal with my creditors by letter only and refuse to provide my telephone number, which means usually I am not bothered by the various phone calls etc.

Most of my creditors are playing ball and are quite understanding and we have a good 'written relationship'. I send a letter, a few days later I get a reply and so forth.

However, there are a handful who never respond, or if they do respond it is usually not a direct response to my letter, just a statement etc.

The two main culprits are Mercers and Link Financial. Link Financial only recently took over my debt which was owed to MBNA.

I wrote to them a week before they even had my account, and since then I have sent them 4 more letters. Detailing my financial situation, including proof of my benefits and my income and expenditure.

I have made a token offer of repayment and I last sent them a cheque to their address. Yet all this time I have never received any further letters from them.

Now, I am a little concerned due to this lack of activity on their part. I no longer have a cheque book due to me swapping accounts and the only way I can really pay is by standing order, giro or postal order.

Now for the amount of money were talking a PO would cost more to buy and therefore it seems silly to use this method. I have asked in all my previous letters for them to either send me a paying-in book or a standing order mandate.

But, you guessed it .... no reply.

So what do you think I should do from here? .... I tried to ring them before but they dont accept withheld numbers ... very sneaky of them.

  • counter checks can be drawn in most banks.

as for the telephone and withheld numbers. nip down to the local bus station and phone them from there. or maybe the local pub. take your mobile with you so you can capture the number from the box before you call them. "Yes, my number is 01234 5678901."

Nice idea in reference to the telephone, worst case, if I do have to phone them then I shall do that.

A counter check on a basic account is chargable is it not?
  • nope. counter cheques are free, or at least they are at the Nationwide. you just go in and ask for a counter cheque for x made out to y. The money comes out of your account immiediately. also, they do seem to clear quicker too. if I pay my CC with a regular cheque it takes 5-6days. with a counter cheque it's gone in next day before.

but anyway, Nationwide's are free :)
