help with our SOA welcome please.....

Hi guys

I've completed the budget brain spreadsheet so we can try and get a grip on our finances - which are all over the place AGAIN! Have had some family stuff going on over the last 2 years and ended up having to take out 0% credit cards to help out. We'd cleared all our cards and were on track to start saving and OPing mortgage - so basically back to square one now with about £15 debt on cards between me and hubby.

Background - hubby working full time & also just started second job as a taxi driver part time - bringing in an extra £500 per month - which explains high insurance & petrol costs. I'm working part time for about £500 per month - but payment is sparodic and irregular - have to chase up employer - small community project. My job is contract work and self employed and I always end up doing more hours. 3 kids - who are all lunches.

We don't think we are overly exravagent - but never have any money left and have nothing in savings at all. Don't buy DVDs, books or computer games, don't drink or smoke or eeat out THAT much - although I do needd to cut down on take aways...(once or twice a week at about £10-12 time for all of us).

I have tried spending diary before but never keep up with it! I know I need to be the main driver of our financial situation - hubby wants me to take charge and start managing our money better - so any help really gratefully received!

SOA to follow - the cards are all in his name, except 1, so I will get him to check total amounts and post those tomorrow

standouts: £80 on clothes
£26 meals at work (take sandwiches)
£68 Healthcare cashplans (what's wrong with the NHS)
£86 eating out. Stop this until the debt is paid back
£80 shopping for fun. Stop this until the debt is paid back
Groceries - try to reduce, loads of advice on old school board
Taxi driving - petrol and insurance is high - are you sure this is profitable after tax?

If you stopped all that and knocked £80 of the groceries you'd be almost £500 a month better off. Other than that I think you need to find ways of increasing your hours or taking on more work.
