Colour change kettle

I know it is daft..but I want a colour change kettle. My friend has one and it changes from blue when the water is cold to bright red when it boils. Unfortunately I can't get the one she has.

I bought one on Monday, A Russell Hobbs from Sainsbury's as it was £24.99 reduced from £50 but is stays bright blue. I phoned Russell Hobbs and as soon as i said I had problem with a kettle they told me exactly what the problem was, apparently it doesn't change colour and they agree the box is misleading and told me to go back to the retailer for a refund, which I did.

I don't want to buy another as they are expensive, unless i know ti really works. Has anyone got one they can recommend please?

No recommendations I'm afraid but I got a Breville version from Argos. It was lovely but after a while it didn't go red when boiling anymore so I returned it. And the same thing happened with the second one. And after a while the blue "standby" light stopped working too. The kettle still works fine though and I actually don't mind. I figure it's a waste of electricity to have the blue "standby" light on all the time.
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)

I saw one of these in Tesco on offer the other day, I think it was Russell Hobbs (I found it actually). It's only £20 online, but I'm sure it was cheaper in Tesco :) *Was it this one you bought?!*

Yep that is the one i bought, according to RH it doesn't actually go red at all and thta picture is misleading.

I have rather taken to the Breville JK82 , the reviews are mixed but as i rarely keep a kettle for longer than a couple of years I think it will be suitable. Just trying to get a decent price now.

  • According to Russell Hobbs website the 14339 Seattle Kettle 'features colour changing illumination in the windows: blue when cold, red when boiling'

The kettle is currently available at Amazon for £20.48.

Yet their helpline agrees with me that it doesn't. I used my nectar points to get Amazon vouchers and am now awaiting delivery of my Breville JK82

According to reviews the kettle is poor. But at least you can watch it change colour for a few months until it breaks.

Avoid the Breville Contour! I was given one as a present and I hate it! The lid doesn't open far enough and when you pour the water out you have to do it very carefully and slowly or you end up with the water everywhere!
I've had mine for 11 months and it still is blue when off and red when on though.

I got the Breville-JK144 from Argos last year (£36.99 then). It stays blue for most of the boil, only changing to purple the red in the last 20 to 30 seconds.
Constantly changes colour when it's not switched on, but the novelty soon wore off. I leave it off the stand now when I'm not using it.

    Seems a good kettle though.
