    Strange, in the original link, ire reffered that transactions were below 2007 levels yet we know the prices are on average lower than in 2007

    I think we will see a pick up in mortgage activity at least in the short term as remortgages have become attractive again. Sub 4% 5 year fixes and sub 2.5% trackers along with relaxation of LTV restrictions suddenly mean that for the majority remortgaging rather than staying on the SVR begins to make sense.

    The economics of this are of course lower long term rates due to a poorer growth outlook and lower short term rates as a thaw in interbank lending is allowing banks to get short term funds more cheaply and has seen a fall in the market clearing short term interest rate (as measured by the best instant access saving and tracker mortgage rates) although this point (about 2.5% now compared to a about 3% a few months ago) is obviously still considerably above the base rate. I am not sure if this means that we could see the base rate rise by about 1.5% before the market and base rate recouple?

    These are for house purchases I believe.
    ts figures showed that there were 52,000 new loans granted to home buyers,

    I agree with what you say but that would be more to do with net lending than these figures.

    Really graham I think I posted on why the growth forecast had to be revised.

    But would being flustered not mean you were posting stuff to get a response rather than talking about the thread.

    No, it's bouncing in with responses to posts guided to send you jogging round in circles. Bolding those responses is even better.

    I am of course, taking the pee here. But seriously, it seems like a race to get the stories up and then shining the spotlight directly on one bit, while ignoring everything else, as if to say.

    Normally these bits that don't prove a point are simply missed out of the article. Today, those bits that are missed out, and being picked up on seem to be being argued to the enth degree.
