Credit Report help please!

thanks to my discovery of this site, I have finally got hold of my credit report and it's not as horrendous as I thought!
I do have two questions:
a) How do you get settled items removed? I have about 15 of these
b) I have two accounts settled (1 in 2001 and the other in 2004) showing credit. The 2001 shows a balance of £549CR!!!) Is this a case of writing to the company and saying 'oi, you've been hanging on to this amount for 5 years - I want it back plus interest' or what? It was a mortgage account and have changed twice since then, don't have the details any more I don't think
advice gratefully received

If this is a mortgage account then I'd definitely suggest giving them a ring and asking for your money back. I bet they haven't paid you a penny in interest on it, but they wouldn't mind charging you if it were the other way round!0

a) settled items will remain for 6 years from the date of setement ( or default if this was earlier)
b) contact the creditor with your personal details and they should be able to trace any old / dormant accounts from there. It’s hard enough remembering my opinions - without remembering my reasons for them :rolleyes:0
