Best Gaming Laptop for <=£400

Options
Just posted this one HUKD, and the deal sank - too many people judging it for what it isn't, rather than what it is.

Perhaps the audience here is more refined :beer:

    Processor was probably good in a laptop back in 2007, similar story on the graphics card, ok but a bit dated now, might 'just about' cope with current games if the settings are turned down and they were not too demanding to begin with, don;t hold your breath for it coping with things over the next year.

    As always 'laptop' and 'gaming' don't really go together ever.... tho if you have an specific/few years old game you like to play it'd probably be ok for that (*glances towards all the Sims3 people who seem to pop up on here from time to time)

    Thanks. I checked this out in depth. Apparently, a stonkingly good deal for a gaming laptop.

    Check out the HD 4650 graphics card power on notebookcheck. ....at rank #59.

    It tricky to interpret benchmarks...what do the scores actually mean? If compare with my existing Geforce 8600 GT which is at rank #114, the new card is double the speed. The old one can chew through anything in the Steam back catalogue, though creaks a bit at the latest Total War. So ....IMHO a good gaming card. I've been a gamer since forever, FPSs and strategy games which are both the kind of thing that soaks up power. This will do me nicely.

    More info: This is an 'Artist Edition' laptop with a whirly design on the case so if you are only comfortable with matt black, it's not for you! It comes with Vista (Boo!...knew there had to be a drawback there somewhere) & a bunch of bundled artists software.

    I guess HP are having a "fire sale" after the CEO got fired!

    I think you have to pay 300 more to get anything equivalent.

    UPDATE: As the helpful if somewhat brusque Donnie has pointed out, the "HP RENEW" part of the name means it's a refurb. Or potentially a refurb, a gamble anyway. Oddly enough this point was not otherwise made on the website, funny that. I will tell you what turns up!....
