The Mortgage Corner

Just wondering whether anyone has any experiences of the company Mortgage Corner? I have been contacted by an advisor after searching mortgage deals through either Experian or London and Country (I can't remember which one). The guy was very helpful, emailed me through his details and some regulatory documents. I've looked into the company website and it looks a bit ropey but I see the company is registered under the FSA, although I could not find that specific advisor on file. He is looking to charge a fee of £199 on completion of the mortgage which sounded reasonable to me, however the next stage is to send him my credit report. Obviously I'm slightly weary of doing this. Please get in touch if you have any info good/bad about the company (or advice on independent mortgage brokers in general), as I'm desperate to move house but don't want to fall for a scam. It would really help to put my mind at rest.

You wont do. The FSA register currently only lists full authorisation control functions (i.e. IFAs or FAs) or management and supervisory control functions. It does not list mortgage and insurance.

There are around 30,000 advisers (mortgage and full). Most work for small local companies. Its still very much a cottage industry.

If they are on the FSA register then it wont be a scam.

As long as they are full whole of market or independent in ALL areas, then you should be fine.

Hi, used The Mortgage Corner on too may occassions to mention and always been more than satisfied with their proffessional advice. Paid a small fee but they managed to get me a good mortgage rate and completed all of the paperwork including dealing with my solicitor which was a god send.

This thread sits here for nearly 2 years and a poster pops up from nowhere, registers today and in their single post, praises the company.

It must be a slow day in the office at the Mortgage Corner, so they google themselves and create an ID to pimp themselves.

My take on it - they are taking us for mugs and I would not touch them with a bargepole.
