Hi gillm. Just waiting on a response for a seamstress for you, but nothing came back as yet. You could try Alter Girls Glasgow.

Hi gillm.
You might surprise yourself when out dress shopping in a bridal store - when I bought mine (at a sample sale) the assistant put the dresses over my head before I had a chance to check the sizes. There was one dress that was quite fitted and it looked too small on the hanger. I really didn't want to try it on because I was petrified I was going to rip it. The woman was so professional and insisted she'd be able to get me in (and out of) it. She really put me at ease. When I finally decided which one to buy, I asked what size it was and she responded "why does it matter? It fits".
I still don't actually know what size it is! But she wrote down my measurements for me to make sure I don't need alterations.Don't worry about typing out my username - Call me COMP(Unless you know my real name - in which case, feel free to use that just to confuse people!)0 -
What does what is on the label matter? Everyone sees you for the size and shape you are. People look at you in the dress, not at the sizing of it. If you get upset by what is on the inside of your clothes, you'll never feel beautiful in them.
If it helps for my birthday I was bought a size 18 top, which fit beautifully. In the same month I bought a size 22 Celeste BHS dress and it was too small for me to feel comfortable in, and I'm getting a dress maker to let it out for me.I love surprises!0 -
Thank you Linda - you're a star
Always good to have a recommendation.
Thanks everyone for all the advice/help.......have had time to mull everything over and the strange thing is I think I'm more worried about the reaction of the people in the actual shop than anything else. Silly I know (especially as I've not been to one yet) and ridiculous really that I'm worried about what people that don't know me think!! I'm sure they will be more than used to seeing people of all different shapes/sizes.....and I know I don't look at people and make judgements on their size, so am sure they won't either.
The problem is me....all part I think of my brain still adapting and adjusting to the new me!! So I'm going to take the plunge (hopefully next Friday) and at least go to a few shops to try on some dresses to at least then get an idea of the styles I suit.0 -
I haven't read all of the posts yet but I had to say something! I bought my dress the other week from Debenhams. I am usually a size 16 (bought primark 16 trousers which fit perfectly - so assumed I was not doing to badly on size) had to get an 18 dress which swamps me! The 16 wouldn't zip in the middle!
I went into one dress shop and was told they didn't do dresses for fat people!!!! A second one told me I would need to have the dress ordered which would take up to 18 weeks (I only had 14 didn't book until last minute) as I would need a size 26! It would also cost me £250 more for the extra material!
! So my size 18 is having to be altered to fit - and have lost half a stone since! 0 -
MissKnixon... That's the craziest set of circumstances I've ever heard!!!!
I saw a Don't Tell The Bride where he bought a size 14 dress and she was a size 8... Uh Oh!!! Until the voice-over said that they were getting it altered for £60!! (only 24 hours to do it in as well!)
I thought then that you may as well get the cheapest dress going for any size as long as it's bigger... There could be a 'massive' dress for a great sale bargain and you could get it taken in 5 sizes to suit!!
I think wedding dress sizing is supposed to be peculiar - gives the bridal shops more business because you *have* to try everything on!I love surprises!0
