Applying to work at ASDA

Hiya
I want to apply to work at ASDA, got an application form yesterday.
I have no experience (been working in care for the last 6 years in between having children) have only one formal qualification (NVQ lvel 2 in health and social care)

Also I can only really start after 9am, and work weekdays as I have no family round here and i'm a lone parent.

Do you think my options are limited because of this?

I can ask mum to have the boys on the odd occasion on a sat or sun but not at set days/times.

the contracts used to vary when i was there, minimum generally was 16 hours, best thing to do was put your availability down and see what happens. rotas vary from store to store as well
Who remembers when X Factor was just Roman suncream?
  • Honestly - I would say that your situation does limit you, they will obviously look for staff that can work a range of shifts at different times as the business isn't 9 - 5. That doesn't mean you don't have a chance though, be honest and open in your application.

At the end of the day - if they need someone to work weekends that it's not that the you're not right for the job, it's that the job isn't right for you!

It could go either way basically :)

It is true that supermarkets like as much flexibility as possible and weekends are when they are busy. HOWEVER usually they can get loads of students to cover the weekends and evenings so people that can work Mon-Fri during "office hours" are actually quite useful.

Chances are you will have to work some bank holidays...not sure what Asda policy was but elsewhere we had to pick 2 or 3 that we would work. Also don't expect any holiday in December, most retailers cancel all leave lover the December/Christmas period.

You are going to have to think about childcare, I think there are around 13 weeks school holidays and maybe some training days but you'll get 5.6 weeks holiday. Also what will you do if a child is ill? Supermarkets are very hot on absence.

You've nothing to lose by applying, they might be able to give you a short hours contract then use you to fill the gaps in the rota when you are free and they have demand.

Thanks, I have no childcare issues, there is lots of wrap around care in this area, well apart from a breakfast club at the school.
The baby has a nursery place already to start in a couple of weeks, as I'm doing a bit of self employed work but would like a job that will garuntee me a steady income, so even a short contract would help, a foot in the door so to speak.
For the odd illness my mum could help out, it's just I cant rely on her for regular care.

Supermarket jobs posted online might only take applications for a day or so. If it isn't any hassle bookmark them all and check them daily.
