Hsbc

Unco-operative and stupid in my opinion.

They are unwilling to accept the offered payments on my Loan (circa £20,000), though also won't tell me what would be an acceptable payment. They are also diverting the money paid into my loan account into my current account. As there is no other activity in that account these days, my overdraft is receeding nicely (now about £600).

Yesterday they rang me at work. I have asked them not to do this, but until now they have rang when I have been out of the office and left messages with my colleagues (luckily they know my situation). When I answered the phone yesterday, I said I was unable to speak (open planned office), but was happy to step out with my mobile and ring them back. The number the girl gave me sent me to an answerphone, which asked me to leave a message. I took pleasure in telling them how stupid I thought the whole thing had been!

Started the process for reclaiming bank charges, well only at the getting the statement part, but am looking forward to this bit as some months they were charging me over £100 for going a few pounds over my limit!!

Any other experiences like this?

    Many of us my friend.

There are some good template letters on the National Debtline (Link at top of page) for trying to arrange payment options.

Also look at Office of Fair trading (OFT) website for guidelines on Harrassment.

I no longer care if my relationship beomes unhealthy, my salary isn't paid into that account any longer and as far as I am concerned, they have contributed to my problems. For probably 15 of the last 20 years I have had a loan of some sort with them, mostly ones suggested by them as a way of getting myself straight. enough is enough!

Perhaps you should look at the consumeraction website and see if you could claim back some of the charges they ave no doubt inflicted on you. Some compensation for years of bad service.

  • Thanks rog2, have begun that process.

HSBC rang me at work again today, claiming they did not have my home phone number - complete rubbish.

They rang back this evening. Apparently the only way they will accept a reduced payment is if I sign a new agreement with them. I informed them that as someone on a DMP I am not allowed to do something that amounts to new borrowing. He was pleasant but incredibly clueless. Apparently I have to wait until I am 6 months in arrears then they will demand full payment and then pass on debt. Until then, once my overdraft clears they will only take the loan payment if and when there is sufficient for the amount I should pay. I shall ring the CCCS tomorrow for advice on this one.
