Debt free wannabe sounds so good!

Hi everyone, I am a newbie, although i am an avid fan i have never posted before. I always believed that I had things under control but feel now I need more help and support. I have followed all the normal save money ideas i.e switching gas/ electric/ credit cards but need more. I already have a full and part time job but need more money. My aim is to be debt free and be able to accumulate savings.

To make it harder I am getting married next year- any ideas would be great either to make money or save.

Hi there and welcome. I don't think it'll be long before you're inundated with helpful hints, but have you looked on the Money Saving Old Style board for ideas on how to make your grocery shopping cheaper?

Post up an SOA so that everyone can have a look and give their opinions on where you might be able to shave off a few pence :)

    Debt-free and Proud!
    Hi Dizzy

Have you seen the weddings & anniversaries board? Its under the Special Occasions & Celebrations Forum. They have LOADS of advice/ideas on moneysaving for a wedding.

FWIW I got married in November and although I didnt keep a really tight rein on spending I got my dress from China (around £100) and bought my wedding invites from M&S (£12) as I figure few people keep them anyway. And if you are having little bridesmaid I got the most fab dress for my niece from Debenhams, cream with a red sash and petals in the bottom that move for £28. I saw these dresses the other day, they are impossible to get in winter, so maybe worth having a peep now if interested? Oh and Debenhams do quidco ;)

    Congrats

Hi dizzy, SOA = Statement of Affairs or your income V outgoings. You will find a template somewhere around the forum to help you do this. Then post it up and the Moneysavers will advise on what to change, leave alone or cut down.

Quidco = Money back web site, where you can get paid for clicking on links to other sites. PM Numpty Monkey on Notice to Newcomers thread for info, He's done a Grand already this year.

    Cheers and good luck, handy.
