Why

Hi,

Just wondered what the problem was with this board lately, all I keep seeing is totally uncalled for comments. I am sure that there are many able bodied members out there who can do many things in their lives that a disabled person could only dream of. I would give up my car today if I could give up my disability at the same time. To be able to do things without the pain, extra cost and time would be lovely.

I do not begrudge any able body person their lives and how they live it, and wish the few on here that seem to just want to post rude comments to disabled people should think before they speak. If you are so worried about the odd ones that are getting the benefits that they are not due, what about many more abled bodied people also doing this. It is NOT just the disabled that cheat the system. It will always be the case that you will get the ones that want something for nothing irrelevant of being disabled or not.

Please just think and see how hurtful your comments can be to someone who is trying to live as best as they can.
Thanks for any help and advice given

hi it is because we (the disabled) are being blamed for the debt the goverment is in...they are putting it across that we are scroungers /lazy fraudsters...national news papers are also labeling us as scroungers/lazy fraudsters....and the only way to get this country out of debt is to get us off dla and full time work(forget what the banks did)who are now making massive profit again! .......escape goat springs to mind

I think you are confusing DLA and ESA/ IB - DLA can be claimed by those in work.

lol not at all, anyone with half a brain cell knows its not the disabled that are bleeding the country dry its the scammers. Its the taboo around disabilities that is making you feel targeted ( its easier to claim fraudulently through DLA etc because people dont want to ask too many questions/offend.

i think some people think some of the perks are jammy, we all get cars free and they dont see the extra costs of geting around , things for the house that you wouldnt normally need etc

shame they dont have to put up with the problems or issues we face, my mate used to get really annoyed he went blind at 16 people see the dog not him

dla there is there to help get your live back to what it was before disabilty or as close as 'normal' if its the case you have been born with issues

Yes it is the scammers that are bleeding the country dry. But I do have to say I wish it was taboo as the questions I was asked and the medical even when they had all my medical information as I signed the form saying they could ask all my drs. If someone wants to scam they will irrelevant of the benefit. There are just people like that. Causing the disabled more stress, worry and unpleasant medicals (as mine was) is not the way to stop this.

I know people that are claiming saying they can't get work and go out of their way not to get the jobs so they can stay on income support. These are the ones that need stopping.

There has been so much highlighted fraud in the present system that's impacted hard on the genuine people who are disabled and need help.

Less money for fraudsters should mean more money for the truly disabled rather than cutting back a Government budget.

Thats just the society we live in though. We all pay taxes to benefit us and society. Either it needs to be accepted that the system is going to be abused or something could try and be done to reduce the scams but then this will have an impact on some of the innocent.

pay for the scammers or risk people being missed out by the system. its not fair to stop the payments some people need to weed out people abusing the benefits so we have to pay for those in the hope that everyon who needs gets!

Yes, fraud has been highlighted a lot.

however, fraud on DLA is 0.5 percent, is less I beleive for IB.

Benefit fraud is a minor problem, that is being purposefully exgaterrated for propaganda purposes.

There is also a thread in DT about benefit bashing here
if anyone wants to add their point of view.

The impact of this is to stigmatise people on benefits,
and we should be deeply worried about that
