Options
I purchased a non chemical detergent and my dishes look terrible,
the tea cups are stained.

Does any one know of a good eco brand ?

  • I use ecover dishwasher tablets and have had no problems at all. My cups come out gleaming !!!!

If you see a link I posted earlier http://www.soorganic.com/home.php you can get tablets from here with free postage at the present.

If you prefer enter "beautybible0406" in the promtional box and it will give you 10 per cent less off the price. You cannot have the 10% and the free postage as have tried !!!! Work out what is better for you.

    Hope this helps,

I can vouch for Ecover as well.

Our water's very hard, but Ecover dishwasher tablets and rinse aid, which are formulated from plant and mineral ingredients, give brilliant results. We use Ecover washing-up liquid too.

I am not a fan of the Ecover Dishwasher tablets - they leave a film on my plates and don't leave them shiny. I'd be interested too if anyone was to recommend a different Eco brand.

    Hi Liney

Is your water hard or soft? I ask because we've been using Ecover dishwater tablets in conjunction with Ecover rinse aid for almost three years now and would certainly have noticed a film deposited on china!

We get superb results, much better IMO than with the ubiiquitous Finish tablets I once used and kinder of course to the environment.

  • We use Ecover tabs and have no problems with them :) (medium-hard water and a 20 year old machine)

The soorganic site, whilst good, is not cost effective for them though - they're only £3.99 a box in Sainsburys anyway (£23.94 for the same quantity soorganic are selling for £25.74), and you get points.

  • Just a thought...

Sometimes items in the dishwasher protrude through the racks and prevent
the spray from rotating resulting in a dirty wash. It is also important to
clean the machine and filters regularly. I have found that due to crockery
being improperly rinsed before stacking in the machine, tiny bits evade
the filters and block the jets in the rotating spray heads. Remove the
heads and inspect each jet on a regular basis.

    Hope this is of help.
  • Fair point from earthmother :o Will look to sainsbury's for my next purchase although were not avail last time I looked.

Congradulations on the 20 year old machine !!!:T Is that your husband or is it an actual make !!!!!! lol;)

  • LOL - hubby (the backup dishwasher) is even older than that :p

The machine is a built-in Neff that came with the house. We had to get an engineer out to it last year, and he said this particular model was made around the mid-80s. It's a bit temperamental, but it does the job.

I am not sure if my water is hard or not really - how do you tell?
We do get limescale but its not unmanageable.

I find it's like a chalky film on my plates that the Ecover tablets leave behind.

I do use the Ecover Rinse Aid and have no problems.

However on your advice I cleaned my dishwasher yesterday and all the heads so next shop I'll buy the Ecover tablets again and will see how I get on.

    Thanks everyone.

You shouldn't have to rinse stuff before putting it in a dishwasher - this wastes water. You should only need to scrape off excessive amounts of food. My dishwasher has no problem dealing with things like rice grains - they just end up in the filter, which is easily emptied after each wash.
Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.
