Phoning DCA

Hi all.

I have sent letter upon letter to DCA asking to set up payment plans of between £10 - £25 a month (depending on the amount of the debt).

I have now had letter through from one (Roxburghe) giving me a 72 hour notice and another (Mackenziehall) with an application for a CCJ etc. DH has told me that I need to ring up and speak to these people, but all the advice on this site seems to be DONT ring them. I have only just come clean to DH about the amount of debt I'm in and his support is brilliant, but to be honest I don't know what to do for the best, it's quite clear they are ignoring my letters.

Whats the worst that can happen if i do ring them to ask if they got my letters???? (I have sent MacHall a letter requesting they contact me by letter only so will my phone call cancel that letter?)

Mackenzie hall reduced me to tears once. They can be pretty nasty on the phone and do bully you with all kind of threats, one phone call they implied they had the power of bailiffs....this was before I knew the script with DCAs....have you sent letters recorded post? Could you ask a debt charity to ring on your behalf?

Well well well, MacHall have given me a final settlement figure to close the account which is less than I owe and they have given me until the end of the month , that'll be another debt paid :j......... Castlebridge have been quite nice as well, only wanted £5 more than I wanted to pay but stillwithin budget, now have to phone Roxburghe.

Just an comment to make on that, I dont believe that the charities role is to phone everyones creditors up on their behalf and no-one should give the impression that they do as it only leads to dissapointment. Imagine the workload involved of phoning everyones creditors?

The OP is willing to contact her creditors by letter and should continue to do so as suggested. Or phone and be firm! ;)

^^ I agree, be firm, meet fire with fire and don't be intimidated by these scumbags.

NEVER EVER PHONE A DEBT COLLECTION COMPANY , NEVER EVER EMAIL A DEBT COLLECTION COMPANY , There are very good reasons for this , they will lie to you , bully , threaten , intimidate , You do not have proof of anything they say to you , If Mackenzie Hall are offering you a reduced settlement offer , be very wary , post up here the actual wording of the offer , as they may take what you send then continue to chase the rest , lrt us look at what they have sent .

It may also be in your best intrests to give us more information about your debts in order to give proper advice , DCA ,s sometimes give reduced settlement offers when a debt can not be legally enforced or is statute barred , be wary , you have been warned .

Apologies, it was kindly meant. CAB do offer this in my area though and have done this in the past. Its OK saying be firm and strong but some people arent very assertive and end up being bullied and pushed around.

Ugh Mac Hall are chasing my ex at my address (he been gone 3 years) saying "despite prevousl correspondences you have failed to respond, We have botained this alternative address as a financial link" - Erm ok so he not replying to you from his new address what makes you think he will do to this!! O and he had a payment deadline to pay them by noon 5th August......... heard nothing since..........

As has been suggested I would write to these people and send by recorded mail and keep a record for yourself.

If MH have given you a settlement figure, do NOT pay anything until you have the offer in writing or else you may find yourself chased by a different DCA in a month or two, they will have taken your money and sold the rest of the debt on. Make sure that the letter states that the money is to be paid in Full and Final settlement of the debt and that you will not be pursued by them or anyone else for the remainder.
