Bristow & Sutor

Hi all,
I am new to this and i am currently seeking some advice on Bristow and Sutor and how to deal with them
The story is....
Me and my partner were late paying a council tax reminder so we paid 2 months (April & May) in may 2010 in advance thinking that it would be sorted. We recieved a liability order for the full amount of the council tax from Dudley MBC which arrived in june 2010 after we had made the double payment and the third months (June)payment too. I agree that i should have made contact with the council but thinking that it was a mistake i left it.
]Then coming off holiday I find 3 letters from a bayliff from B&S stating that i owed them the outstanding balance (Which 3 months had been taken off) and fees.
Having contacted B&S stating that i was on holiday when the bayliff tried to contact us and the fact that it was impossible for me to respond to any letters or bayliffs while i was away i feel it unfair to charge me the fees. They said it does not matter and i will have to pay the fees in full which consists of 2 visits and a levy fee and a 24.50 fee for releasing my own bloody property.
B&S had the debt passed to them 12 Days before acting on it and attending in the main 2 weeks when most of the uk go on holiday in my eyes is disgusting. And the bayliff would have known we were on holiday had he contacted neighbours who have our details plus the fact that both cars has not moved and the bin bag provided by Dudley MBC was still there might have given this idiot an idea but no it didnt.
I have contacted both the council who basicly could not give a monkeys and B&S and said I have no objection in paying off the debt but the charges are not fair due to me not being in the uk to deal with it to which there answer is you have no choice.
Do i have any options or should I just pay it and take it that keeping my head in the sand in future is not the best option?
Sorry i am new to this forum
Thanks
Ade
